I think trading up in this draft to get Smith or Rodgers is a very bad idea. Neither is worth it.
I do no tknow who the Browns will take. I'm hoping the Lions can get a shot at Derrick Johnson, Antrell Rolle or Alex Barron. Barron could fill the most immediate need, but the other two are probably better prosepcts overall

Barron is a better prospect than Johnson, IMO. Barron has all the talent in the world but doesn't have that fire. If a coach can light a fire under him, he'll dominate.
Cole, as much as I love him, is just not draftworthy.
And this draft is awful for OTs. Barron is the best, with great upside, but poor track record. None of the other OTs in this draft are graded out as surefire starters either. Personally, I always liked Terry when I saw him play, but he is not known as a dominant run blocker, and that has hurt him quite a bit on draft boards. Jammal Brown from Oklahoma & Khalif Barnes of Washington are likely first rounders, but neither are dominant. I've seen Kaczur graded as a top 10 tackle in this draft, yet falling to the 5th/6th round. This is NOT a good OT draft, according to most prognosticators, anyway.
It is very deep for the interior linemen, however. Lots of good guards & centers will be taken in the 2nd-4th round. I think what hurts Scott more than the depth, however, is that there is no top level talent on the interior OL. The top interior linement (Baas) will not be gone until a few picks into the 2nd round, likely. Generally there are at least one or two first round interior OL guys, and then a lot of them go in the 2nd. With the best of this class grading out in the 2nd round already, it's going to push the rest of the class down a round or two as well.
I cannot see this being "the draft of the OL", because there are likely to be no more than 2-3 taken in the entire first round. It is deep with a lot of decent talent, but there are no true stars. Barron could be if he wanted to be. To emphasize this point D'Brickashaw Ferguson would've been the #1 OT off the board for sure had he left early, and he's got some serious questions about him in the strength/run blocking department. There is no Gallery/Ogden/Pace in this draft.

1. Who do the Browns pick with their 1st Round pick? I'm not thinking the Browns will take a QB, the Patriot system that is being worked here says that a QB can be drafted late in the draft and worked into the system to be very effective (see Tom Brady). If the Browns stay (which I don't think they will, because they need a lot) they will take Antrel Rolle.
2. Who goes #1 in the draft? I agree w/ whomever said it, that Braylon Edwards will be the first player taken.
3. Magner: Which round? It'll be tough to get drafted if you're Magner, at best he's a 7th rounder.
4. Who's the first Falcon to go in the draft? Scott M. will get drafted. It has been said that he's getting a lot of attention from the Bengals and I'd like that.
I also look for the Eagles to deal up. They have 13 draft picks and there is no way all 13 would make their team. I'm thinking they will package some of those picks to move up and pick an impact player. Maybe the Browns could trade the #3 pick for the Eagels #31, #35, and a few more. This draft is very deep and I think they'd get some real good players, not to mention I'd love for Philly to get another great player!!

BGSU Class of '07
Philly only has 5 or 6 open roster spots available. I think they will be dealing a lot of picks to move up or for picks next year.duckunder53 wrote: I also look for the Eagles to deal up. Here is an article about the OT draft class.NY-BG-FAN wrote: I disagree, Alex Barron from Florida State, and Adam Terry from Syracuse, (The two tallest O-lineman available I believe) both have a chance to go in the first round, and will both be off the board by the mid second round. Overall, this may be the year of the offensive lineman, ala the 1983 QB's.

follow this chart when proposing draft pick trades...duckunder53 wrote: I also look for the Eagles to deal up. They have 13 draft picks and there is no way all 13 would make their team. it's the pick value chart that jimmy johnson made famous and all teams use these days.
the eagles will probably only be able to move up to the middle of the first with #31 and #35. according to the chart, the best they could do is #13. however, if the eagles decide owens isn't worth the hassle, then he's worth about what the vikes got for randy moss. or owens and the #35 would probably be worth the #3 pick.
and i've heard rumblings the vikes want a WR and will trade up to #2 or #3 if they feel they need to to get edwards or williams, however i think they'll be fine at #7 or #18 to get a solid WR.
TO BILL BRASKY!!!!
That was me. I just have a feeling that SF is blowing smoke up everyone's shorts. They have only talked about Rodgers or Smith for so long, everyone thinks that one one those guys has to be the pick. But with their financial constraints, I wouldn't understand why they would take such a big risk on one of the QBs when neither is a flat-out star. So, for getting return on their investment, I think they would be better off taking Edwards, if they don't sucker someone into taking the pick off thier hands.duckunder53 wrote:2. No way the Eagles trade TO. Also, that chart is useful but not as much so with this draft. It is such a buyers market because of the "weak" draft class that the value is less for the higher picks.BGFalcons232 wrote: follow this chart when proposing draft pick trades...

Maybe the Browns want Freddie Mitchell

yeah, philly won't trade TO before the draft, but i smell a holdout coming with him. you don't hire drew rosenhaus to renegotiate. philly could become very tired of him come training camp.
i can see the eagles taking a matt jones or pray that mark clayton falls to them at #31. i don't see them not taking a WR in the first round.
*edit..... oh yeah, and you guys can keep fred-ex. if he ever wears a browns uniform, that's the day i start the campaign to throw phil savage into lake erie.

John Clayton reported that the 49ers have all but settled on Braylon Edwards and talks between them and Alex Smith are all but dead at the moment.Warthog wrote:That was me.
