I'm rooting for the Buckeyes. I hope they drill the Herd like a Saudi oil field.

Tressel talks pretty big for a guy who used to coach a team named after a flightless bird that eats fish guts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My God, this is a no win situation.... I certainly see both sides of this one.

Tressel can say whatever he wants...won't make a difference to me. Bottom line is BG was 2-1, and could have easily been 3-0, vs the Big Ten last yr. And none of those games were at the Doyt.

I guess I'll root for both to lose!

Anyone who went to the BG-OSU games in 1997 and in 2003 will know what I'm talking about. Anyone who read the OSU press conference quotes following the 2003 BG-OSU game will back me up. We almost beat them in their own house and they never gave us a ounce of credit. We played them better than half of the BIG 10 did! It made me ill. Even when we pummeled Liberty last season...our players gave credit to the Liberty squad for playing a clean game and fighting to the buzzer.

I can't stand Marshall, but I'd chalk this up as a MAC win more than anything. When we beat Purdue, every analyst on ESPN said "This is a great win for the MAC". You are going to see a pissed off Marshall team on Saturday that did not like losing to Troy State. It's about time that a mid-major ripped this team a new one on their own turf. I don't care if it's Marshall, Lousiana Monroe, or Bowling Green. Somebody just beat these guys. I'm ALWAYS going to support the MAC team when they play their out-of-conference games.

The list of those that have "almost beaten" OSU in recent years is quite large. Tressel coaches for close games. He doesn't open up the offense to allow for big victories. YOu have to be very terrible to get blown out by OSU. That said, they also do WIN those games.

Yes, we played OSU tough, they would admit that. Yes it was a close game, as evidenced by the score. But the fact still remains that when they needed a play to seal the deal they made it. That's the way OSU is. I don't really take playing them close as any sort of badge of honor for our team.

Playing OU close, on the other hand, is a whole other story.

<"Tressel coaches for close games. He doesn't open up the offense to allow for big victories.">

Honestly now...what coach wants to play close games? Are you saying that Tressel is a masochist? The goal of the coach/team is not to allow their opponents any points. The goal is also to put enough points on the board so that your opponent has little chance of getting back into game. I highly doubt this theory as much as I doubt that the Buckeye players are holding themselves back against their opponents.

If this theory is true...then the desired score for every OSU game last season would be 7-0.

Arggh....I'm sick of talking about the Buckeyes. They don't deserve our time anyways.

Well...Marshall WAS one of the first MAC teams. As soon as they hop to C-USA if with you in that I hope they never win again.

Huh? In English please. And when were they "one of the first MAC teams"?? Even if they were around at the start of the conference, they lost that claim in the early '70s when the MAC kicked them out on their asses.

Sorry...typos....

The Mid-American Conference was founded as a five-school league on February 24, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio with Ohio, Butler, Cincinnati, Wayne State and Western Reserve admitted as charter members.

The Mid-American Conference has 13 full-time schools and a 14th, UCF, for football only. Comprising the East Division is the University of Akron (joined in 1992), University at Buffalo (1998), University of Central Florida (2002, football only), Kent State University (1951), Marshall University (1954-69, 1997), Miami University (1947) and Ohio University (1946). The West Division members are Ball State University (1973), Bowling Green State University (1952), Central Michigan University (1971), Eastern Michigan University (1971), Northern Illinois University (1975-86, 1997), University of Toledo (1950) and Western Michigan University (1947). Affiliate members include the University of Kentucky in men's soccer, the University of Louisville in field hockey and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) in men's tennis. Marshall and UCF will depart the MAC after the 2004-05 season in order to compete in Conference USA.

So I'd say Marshall could be considered one of the first.

The original six is Miami, Ohio, Kent State, Bowling Green, Toledo and Western Michigan. From mid-1950s through 1975, that was the MAC -- along with Marshall.

I think the MAC would be better off with Marshall than without. I'm sorry to see Marshall make what is, at best, a lateral move.

But they've made their decision. And I've made mine. I hope they never win again.

I don't like Ohio State either. I'd love to see a few 0-8 Big Ten seasons wipe the smirk off faces in Buckeye nation.

It comes down to this for me: The pleasure of seeing Ohio State lose would be grossly outweighed by the thought of Conference USA-bound Marshall being the ones to finally knock 'em off.

If Ohio State wins -- well, at least I'm used to that. They win an awful lot.

damn typos! *laugh*

and while I would consider them "one of the first" in that context, I wouldn't use it to take pride in them winning anything. Kicked out once, bailing on their own another time, I'm just as happy having never known them or their fans.

I hope that nobody thinks I like Marshall...

It's hard to like a team who's fans throw glass bottles at Marshall's opponents when they walk back up of the locker room after the game is over. (see the Central Michigan vs. Marshall contest in 1998).

or talk to Falcon marching band members of 2001, herd fans were quite awful to them as well, throwing things and the like I was told.
