I hope they create a website.

It's cheap. (like the budgie)

It reaches a sh*t ton of people.

It could include stuff from people on this site.

I really hope the athletic marketing/communications has considered putting together an Omar4Heisman type site. A couple of reasons not to do it come to mind:

1. Cost Time Consuming -if this is the case I would be dissappointed because the costs aren't all that bad and there are plenty of volunteers who woudl be willing to help with a professinal looking site (ala Grant, Hammb, and myself with www.harris4heisman.com)

2. Brandon/Krebs/Team Doesn't Want It- I coudl respect that if they didn't want to tout one player on a team oriented level.

Who knows if we'll ever know what they are thinking over in Stadium East.

If the words "Omar Jacobs" aren't preceded by the phrase "Heismn trophy candidate" at least once in every press release, there ought to be an investigation.

We have a guy getting attention on a national level. I'm all for respecting the "team" concept, but this is a once in a blue moon occurence for a MAC
school. If we're serious about building this program on a national level, we need to capitalize on this from a marketing standpoint

Again, the fact that national publications are all giving Omar some serious Heisman hype -- well before the preseason mags come out -- suggests the athletic department isn't just sleeping on the job here.

Clearly, we want a gimmick. It's not enough that BGSU is quietly working the media. We want to be stroked a little, too.

Joey Harrington had his Times Square billboard. Byron Leftwich had his bobblehead sent to every Heisman voter in the land (I have one; I used to work with a Heisman voter).

So -- let's come up with some gimmicks. If we have any really good ideas, I'm sure our friends in the athletic department will appreciate them.

But they need to be real, attention-getting gimmicks.

A billboard on Times Square is no longer a gimmick.
Free bobbleheads are no longer a gimmick.
A Web site is no longer a gimmick (although not necessarily a bad idea).

Got gimmicks?

I was thinking along those lines.

What if we put a giant dred-locked wig on top of a billboard in Storrs, Connecticut?

(Or on the Wood County Courthouse?)

Schade:

Agreed, but I'm thinking wraparound ...

Bobbleheads - why not? Send them to the ESPN crew before one of our games. That'll get 'em on TV. Nice exposure!

Love the wig idea. Give them out for a televised home game (Toledo?).

T-shirts are a slam dunk. I think the ones for J5 were clunky. Have some fun - maybe the Heisman trophy in dreadlocks. Sell these AT COST to get them out there.

Web site is a must-have. No longer a gimmick; it's a necessity.

More to come ...

They definitely have work to do, this page from ESPN does not have Omar in their lists and their are several different writers opinions.

I was thinking a Miter for the scoreboard. I don't want PJ to be left out of some homegrown hype!

How much does Omar look like Rob Blake? Maybe a paint job and a deal with Huntington Banks can get this done!
