I know of the online option, but many, three days of not being able to "really" play the game?? No thanks, I like to enter the stuff in myself and get playing as soon as possible. ITs a good way to get to know college football players.
What I usually do is put in the entire BG roster. Then on CFN or a similar website they have listings of each team's top 5 players. So I'll enter in the top 5 for all of the teams on BG's schedule. Then I will also print out a sheet that has top ten college players at each position and enter those guys in so the weekly stats show the better players. Works for me as I wouldn't want to wait to start a season!!
Still, what the hell is a Max Drive??
Sorry man, haven't been checking this thread today, I forgot I had posted in it
Anyways, a Max Drive is a USB flash drive for your PS2.

It has a software disk for both your computer & your PS2. You have to install the computer software to transfer files to/from your computer, but once you do its pretty easy. In order to use the drive on your PS2 you must put the MAX drive in the USB slot in the PS2 and boot up with the PS2 disc they give you. Their management software will then allow you to transfer files from your memory cards to the MAX drive, and vice versa. It also has a compression utility to store more info on the MAX drive. That software will also let you download cheats/hacks from their website if you've got a network adaptor for the PS2.
Anyways, I bought this last year when I bought NCAA '05, the day it came out. That evening I was already able to find a roster file with all the names on the internet (not sure where). I then copied it onto the MAX drive, and then copied it from the MAX drive to the memory card. First time I booted NCAA '05 I already had every name in the game into the rosters. It was worth it for that right there!
It is also handy if you've got too much for a memory card you can just put it on the MAX drive & transfer it when you want to play that game. That is the only downside is that you must use their PS2 disc in order to transfer info to/from the drive, as none of the PS2 games are designed to save or load directly onto USB.
I'd recommend it if you like to have the names of players and don't want to enter them yourself. They also make cheats readily downloadable similar to the old gameshark days, if that's your kinda thing. Plus you can backup all your save files to PC
As for NCAA '06, I was pretty disappointed with '05. Then I bought Madden '05 when it went to $20 & I was shocked. I have played a TON of Madden, its the best Madden yet by far. I think this year I'll be sticking with Madden, as last year's was so much better than the NCAA game. I think NCAA '03 was still the best by far; in that one it was actually difficult to recruit at BG until you built them up. In '04 & '05 the recruiting process has just gotten WAY too easy to snag too much top tier talent.
FWIW, EA did sign an exclusive deal with the NCAA as well, but as Dayons said nobody else has made a college football game for a few years. EA's was so much better than the competition the competition bowed out.
