Ok, I'll elaborate...What's irritated most people (67% of Americans according to the latest Fox Opinion Dynamics poll) is Dickman's...I mean Beckman's assertion that coaching at OSU is "every kid in Ohio's dream job". If he wants to call it "his" dream job, I don't think there'd be a problem.

There's a number of people (at least 67%) who get tired of the whole "THE" Ohio State University trip and all the crapola that goes along with the smug "we get all the money because God and the Taft family loves us" sense of entitlement that exists at that nice little cow college at the state capitol.

Yeah, that's right Timmy...there's one college in the whole fricking state that everyone wants to be a part of and no one is fulfilled until God himself
taps you on the shoulder and tells you it's your time to shine...you get to be a BUCKEYE at last. The rest of world is just marking time until that glorious moment occurs.

Screw that

And while you're at it, take a look at what's been posted on this board over the past two years, ( not you specifically, you in general) you won't find a more staunch defender of he who became dickish's abilities as a coach than myself.

So there you have it. I called him a dick because he said something stupid that really rubbed me the wrong way and because it's one of those grade school insults that sounds so stupid no one could take it seriously. I could have called him a "homo"...but I don't go there with people.
Now if you would have called him a homo dick, I would have really been pissed off.

We loved Urban when he was here and called him a dick when he left. There was no doubt he was an up and comer.

We continue to follow the Falcons while Blackney was great and when he was bad.

Now we call Beckman a dick for leaving. Sour grapes? I think so. Would you leave McDonalds to work for GM or Ford? I think so. Good for him - he is moving up in the coaching profession. How much longer do you think Brandon will be here? Will we be calling hi a dick if he moves on next year? Probrobly. You call OSU fans dicks - it must take on to know one? Comeon people, stop ripping a guy for moving on. As BG people, are we not bigger than that? Leave that for Turdledo?

Ok...let's try this again in English.

No one is mad at Beckman for leaving..that's his right as an American. Some of us are ticked because his comments on the way out the door made BGSU and every other MAC school in Ohio seem second class not just to him, but to EVERYONE coaching or playing in Ohio.

I can't make it any clearer and I'm not going to respond to any more comments from people who think I'm mad at him just for leaving.

As for throwing around terms like "homo dick"...I have to wonder, why does every discussion about coaching at BGSU have to involve Urban Meyer?

Schadenfreude wrote:Back in 2003, as the clock slipped under 3 minutes at Ohio State -- and as Josh Harris furiously moved the team into field goal range to try to get within a touchdown -- I heard, in my ear, through beer-stenched breath:

"TICK.... TICK... TICK..."

This guy was a season ticket holder. He had attended Ohio State games for God-knows-how-many-years -- and the reason why became abundantly clear as he bellowed into my ear.

He was there compensating for everything he was lacking in the rest of his life.

He didn't carry himself in the manner of someone who had wowed his teachers back in high school. He didn't appear to be getting rich at his job. And his girlfriend or wife wasn't all that pretty.

But at least he had "his" Ohio State Buckeyes.

Despite all the lack of power over all the rest of his life, at least this guy could pay for the privlege of coming into Ohio Stadium for a few Saturdays each fall and taunt and bully in a manner that was impossible for him to do in the rest of his life.

He was paying for the privlege of associating himself with the success and superiority of Ohio State football -- and, by extension, become a bit more successful and superior himself.

The nuance of the moment we were watching was completely lost on him. Here was a scrappy team of kids that never had a damned thing handed to them or their program fighting for its life against the defending so-called national champions.

He couldn't see that.

All he saw was that the score wasn't 63-0 -- rendering untrue much of he assumed to be true about Bowling Green football, despite what we all had seen at Purdue two weeks earlier.

So, he taunted:

"TICK.... TICK...TICK..."

He was, in short, a dick.

We don't have fans like that.

I don't understand people like that, and I never will. It isn't in my DNA.

For Beckman to imply that I'm secretly an Ohio State fan -- and that we all are -- is the equivalent of dropping his pants at Wooster and Main and mooning the whole city.

I haven't been this angry since the cheerleaders pulled that stunt at Michigan in 2000.
You forgot to add that he never graduated from Ohio State, nor did he ever attend a class at the place. He didn't even apply for admission.

I'm not going to miss Beckman at all. Our defense never made me crave Beckman to never leave like I would Coach Brandon. If we get a better DC for our team and Beckman is just in love with OSWhO then who cares, so be it. Its over and I'm moving on.

I have said it once and I will say it again. EVERY school has fans that are dicks. If you think we don't then you are living in a perfect world and go to Walgreens for everything. If you don't believe me then you haven't been sitting in the different places around our facilities that I have, and before you start they weren't all in student sections. I have many friends that have attended other schools, some of them even went to OSU, and to put all OSU fans in the same category is just stupid. Let Beckman go and say whatever he wants, it's his first amentment right. Good luck to him and maybe he will hear some of what we are saying and learn to taylopr his comments a little.

Everyone has valid points on this matter. Schad, that post was first rate and very telling on the 'average fan' of the bigger budget schools.

Was what Beckman said to the Sentinal stupid? Yup. Does he really feel that way? Don't know, really. I haven't seen that quote anywhere else but here.

If he thinks that OSU is the dream job of every kid raised in Ohio, so be it. That is his reality based on perception.
There are people who think the moon landing was a hoax and that Hitler is still alive living on the Canary Islands.

i say, we just let this issue die and concentrate on the next DC who may, very well, be better that Beck.

I am sad to see him leave but I really don't blame him. I have seen this coming for a couple of years now. Beckman has been passed up for the head coaching job at BG twice now, so it was only a matter of time before he left for another school. When Blackney stepepd down Beckman interviewed for the head job and then he interviewed for the head job again after Meyer left. If and when Brandon leaves, Studrawa will most likely be named the next head coach, so Beckman might never have gotten his chance ast a herad coaching job if he stayed at BG. I wish him the very best at Ohio State and hopefully he can use what he learns coaching under Tressel to land the head coaching job he has always wanted and so rightly deserves.
