Tim Beckman does not warrant the UGLY childish remarks that have been leveled at him. This is a man who was a Falcon Football coach through three head coaches. He deserves a hell of a lot more respect, praise, and thanks than some of the childish remarks on this thread have provided.
Good luck Coach Beckman in your future endeavors.

It's the Journey... wrote:I have said it once and I will say it again. EVERY school has fans that are dicks. If you think we don't then you are living in a perfect world and go to Walgreens for everything. If you don't believe me then you haven't been sitting in the different places around our facilities that I have, and before you start they weren't all in student sections. I have many friends that have attended other schools, some of them even went to OSU, and to put all OSU fans in the same category is just stupid. Let Beckman go and say whatever he wants, it's his first amentment right. Good luck to him and maybe he will hear some of what we are saying and learn to taylopr his comments a little.
Invalid argument -- you are trashing everybody on here who exercised their first amendment right by calling beckman a dick.
They're just venting because they took offense from Beckman's comments. i don't have any problem with Beckman leaving or some of our fans being upset with him, but I do have a problem with what he said. However as soon as somebody becomes affiliated with OSU's football team, they immediately drop off my radar screen and become beneath my attention.
Our defense clearly wasn't going to improve with him at the reigns. It may not under the next guy either but that remains to be seen. I just hope we can see some steps forward in the next few years for our defense and new DC -- our recruiting seems to be on the right track to accomplish just that.
Roll Along!
Seems to me that you are all up in arms over a comment because of ONE word choice. Sure it wasn't the right choice of words. Instead of "Any Kid" he should've said "almost any kid." In that case he would've been CORRECT!
Look, I love BG. I got a great education, and I enjoy following their sporting teams. But I cannot delude myself into believing that the rest of the state feels the same way. I would be that a rather larger percentage of the kids growing up in Ohio are going to be brought up to be OSU fans. I was. Almost all my friends were, those that weren't were UM fans. Freak has even said that HE was an OSU fan growing up. I would bet that there are more OSU fans raised in ohio than fans of all other Ohio universities combined! Sure, many of them become fans of other schools if they choose to attend them, but they were still first raised as OSU fans.
That makes me believe that it becomes their dream place to play/coach. If you grew up an OSU fan, I can certainly see why it'd be your dream place to play if you made it to that level. Certainly if you were a coach it only makes sense that you'd want to be there too. Beyond just the lore most athletes & coaches want to be the best. They want to be the best, against the best, and be recognized as the best. Sorry to disappoint ya'll, but over the long haul your best chance in that regard is at OSU. Around here we're excited because we go to 2 bowl games and appear in the top 25 a few times. At OSU that is commonplace, and being in the top 10 is not uncommon. They are a part of the best rivalry in ALL of sports, PERIOD.
Like it or not OSU is the dream place for college football for a large majority of Ohioans. As much as I love BG now, if I were a player or coach I would still have preferred OSU. Saying "Any" or "Everyone" is not a good choice of words because it is 100% inclusive, and one exception makes you incorrect. But if you did a survey I'd guarantee that the numbers for OSU dwarf that of all the other schools, and I wouldn't be shocked if it were the dream place for more people than all the other schools combined.
Like someone else said, we really need to get over this inferiority complex. So long as we're still in Ohio, Ohio State will still be there. It will almost assuredly always be the bigger school with the more nationally recognized team. It will nearly always be the place where many of our players and coaches would rather be if they had the opportunity. On the field we can compete with them, and someday we may even beat them. Even then, they will continue to be more popularly followed team. I have learned to deal with that, I think the rest of us should as well.

Hammb, your points are well taken. BUT, it was one of our own that dissed us. If Jim Tressel said something like that when he got the head job, I am sure folks at YSU would have felt miffed. Beckman did say a lot of nice things about BG and probably stayed here longer then he should have (I mean that in respect to his own personal career path goals, not meaning that he wore out his wlecome or wasn't a good coach.) So it just stings a little more when it looks like he passed on other opportunities to stay at BG because he liked here and then say something like this when he finally does leave. I will stop short of calling him a dick, I am just disappointed in him.

Where did I say that because Beckman exercised his first amendment right no one on here could use their first amendment right? I didn't say anyone HAD to stop calling him names. Believe it or not you can actually exercise your first amendemnt right while someone else exercises theirs. If you want an example just look at this site.Invalid argument -- you are trashing everybody on here who exercised their first amendment right by calling beckman a dick.

I've been hearing that since page 4. Frankly, I'm pretty shocked it hasn't fallen yet.Flipper wrote:Tick.....tick...tick...tick... I think I hear a "lock" bomb coming...

I see both sides of this. SF brings up some excellent points in his post as the BG/OSU game wound down in 2003. I was surrounded by a OSU fans that were somewhat intoxicated and had to endure stuff like "We should be hammering this bush league team!" and "BG and the MAC suck...OSU is playing lousy and BG has no business on the same field".
While the comback was in process, I turned around more than a few times to let them know "Look who's coming back"!
When the game ended, there was no "Wow, BG has a pretty darn good team!" or "Nice comeback".
It was back to the "OSU played like crap and BG was lucky it wasn't 38-7".
Well, we've played OSU 3 times in the last 15 years and twice we could have easily won...but didn't. In 1997, BG had no biz being on the same field.
Hammb brings up some good points as well. I hate the fact that OSU gets so much attention and coverage. I hate the fact that all the other schools in Ohio "don't measure up" in the eyes of the media and others. But, I hate the fact that Buckeye football has been crammed down my throat by everyone in this State. How could a kid not want to play at OSU??? That's all they ever freakin hear!!!
It was disappointing to hear Beck say what he did. But I am more concerned at this time with our new DC.
GO FALCONS!!!
