Still Waiting

Post by Salsa »

Where is the big media barrage about the "Building Dreams" fundraising campaign?

What has come out so far is very disappointing in terms of its scope and details. Surely there will be more information forthcoming and hopefully soon.

You would think that launching a 3 year nationwide campaign would be accompanied by considerably more publicity.

The Sentinel had a huge write up in Monday's paper. They have raised nearly $75 million. That blew me away.

I'd give you a link to the online article, but I don't feel like transcribing. :)

UK Peregrine--Thank you so much. I now know more than I did. However, a good deal of what has been revealed so far is news that has been released before.

One comment here-if 75 million of a 120 million goal has already been reached, this means the campaign is almost 2/3s of the way home. You would think that raising the final 45 million in three years is very reachable.

I would like to see a percentage breakdown of what goes to various projects and also to different areas such as capital funding, scholarships, endowed professorships, etc. Also, I'm wondering how this campaign relates specifically to the recently revised Master Plan for BG.

I'm especially hoping for news concerning official confirmation of additional projects. Based upon scattered bits of information and putting two and two together, I am almost certain that there is something very important yet to be announced. Rather than shooting myself in the foot by saying something, I'd rather wait for an official announcement or at least hear it from an unimpeachable source. I really don't want to play games, just don't want to shout something out prematurely.

Guess we'll have to wait.

It's to small of a campaign. I was hoping for someting big and bold. We have also heard about many of the donations before. The gifts from Sebo, Wolf, Hamilton, etc. had already been announced. It seems like this campaign just scooped up a bunch of smaller projects and put them under one title. I was expecting something like 10 years and and 250 million or so with the goal of endowing ALL scholarshipe here at BGSU, and buidlign updates/new construction. That kind of money would go a long way to completing the new physical master plan. I guess I expected a lot more visibility on this campaign.

Financial aid should be able to show you some loan opportunities available that will give you the $5000 needed.

Thanks for the advice, but... Been there, done that. And I don't have a co-signer. My family hasn't helped me with financial support since I graduated H.S. Besides, they're all in worse financial shape than I am.

If you look at what BG has raised in the past--check the article in the Sentinel about past fundraising- the Building Dreams campaign is a monster step forward. Those things you mentioned were part of the "quiet" campaign and now the public campaign starts. I like the way you think though!!!!!!

As for the visibility on the campaign- that would mean that the Sentinel would have to get behind a University project- oh wait- that never happens.

Salsa- you probably are right if you know what I heard.

Did you speculate about some of this stuff over on MACBBS? If so that would be great news for Bowling Green.

He did. He threw out all kinds of ideas.

What I found most precient was his notion that the next stages of work at the stadium will include:

1. Basic street furniture, fencing, etc. around the stadium to modernize it.
2. The addition of a new press box and more and/or new luxury boxes on the west side.

The fact that he named a compass point made me the slightest bit suspicious that he's actually heard a rumor on this score.

I've been ruminating about this for a while. It does seem like a logical next step, adding more luxury boes.

What I wonder is whether or not Perry Stadium will have enough seats when the Sebo Center is put in and how a lxuury improvement would affect that need.

If seats are a problem, the relatively inexpensive thing to do at this point would be to add another section or two toward the south end zone, to get the stadium closer to a horseshoe in that end.

But if money were no object, I'd add a second deck on one side or the other. The sight lines would be much better.

That's way down the road, I imagine. They'd have to move the lights, for one thing.

But if they do consider more luxury boxes, I hope they would build it in a way where a second tier of seating could be accomodated above them.

I actually don't think it would be a huge strutural issue. Most of the weight, it would seem, could be directed straight down rather than on the existing stadium structure.

I know this seems zany. But it is the offseason, and this place is going to seem awfully small after we win our first BCS bowl. :)

I was thinking about how a 2nd deck would be at the stadium, how would it look with another deck with such a gradual incline?
