omar mentioned in espn insider article

Post by mk455 »

i don't know if this article was posted before... i looked around... but i figured it wouldn't be cause i got it from the espn insider preview day.

this guy has omar listed as the 3rd qb to go in the 2006 draft.

It must seem entirely too early to discuss next year's NFL draft. After all, the 2005 draft wrapped up just one week ago. But don't tell that to NFL scouts, who already have begun measuring, timing, prodding and poking senior prospects on campuses across the country. At this very moment, all 32 NFL personnel departments are collecting as much data as possible in an attempt to compile an initial list of legitimate draft prospects.

Not to be outdone, our scouts offer a preseason look ahead at the 2006 NFL draft landscape. The following list is broken down by position, with top-junior prospects included. Brief analysis on the top-five prospects at each position is also provided.

*underclassmen.

Quarterbacks

1. Matt Leinart, USC
Southpaw is a big, accurate quarterback with exceptional leadership skills and poise. Lacks ideal arm strength and athleticism. Shoulder injury is a concern. How will he respond without coordinator Norm Chow?

2. Chris Leak*, Florida
Has the size, arm strength and athletic ability but lacks the consistency, mechanics and toughness. Can new coach Urban Meyer refine him?

3. Omar Jacobs*, Bowling Green
Exploded onto the national scene as a first-year starter in 2004, when he threw for 4,002 yards and rushed for 300 more. Is unpolished but possesses all the physical tools to make it in the NFL.

4. Charlie Whitehurst, Clemson
A strong-armed quarterback with lots of upside, but must rebound after an embarrassing campaign as a junior in 2004.

5. Bruce Gradkowski, Toledo
A tough quarterback with adequate size and arm strength. Efficient but most of his throws are underneath. Is he a product of the system?

...and here's another one

Spring Answers: If you enjoyed watching the Falcons last season, you'll want to check back this fall. There's no reason to believe the offense won't be even better this season. As if he needed to prove himself, the sensational Jacobs (41 TD/4 INT in '04) went out and threw for 441 yards and six touchdowns in the spring game. While freshmen Corey Patridge and Luke Alexander caught five of those scores, they're still buried on the depth chart. Because even with the loss of Cole Magner, BG is as stacked as ever, with Sharon and Steve Sanders leading the way. ... Then there is Pope, who looks headed for his third straight 1,000-yard rushing season if the line can fill a few holes on the right side. ... Losing Burkes and Daniel Sayles to graduation, Bowling Green needed a couple spring answers at linebacker. It got at least one in the form of Terrel White. Mainly a special teams contributor in the past, the junior was an absolute monster hitter during the scrimmages.

Fall Questions: For the offense to completely hit on all cylinders, it needs to know three O-line starters can be adequately replaced. It looks like junior John Lanning has the tools to fill the big shoes of four-year starter Scott Mruczkowski at center, but the projected starters at both right guard and right tackle are relatively unproven. ... Defensively, the Falcons lose four all-MAC performers, including a big-play magnet in Newson. While depth on the D-line is an issue, the No. 1 priority on this side of the ball is finding two replacement safeties. The returning corners could also stand to improve a bit, even though they were somewhat unfairly given a bad wrap considering BG's tendency to jump out to a huge lead led teams to pass and pass often. ... For the first time since 2000, Shane Suisham will not be kicking for Bowling Green. With the NCAA record-holder for career extra points (226) gone, in steps the relatively green Joe Timchenko. Although he is a senior, he's attempted only one field goal in his career.

How can he say Leak has the size to make it in the pros. The biggest knock on him is his size, he is 6'0 at most.

I believe he's like 6' or 6'1. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but here they said he was like 6'3 but they shorted him some at the combines and I haven't heard anything since.

I could be wrong, but I believe his combine measurement was 6'0 3/8"
