Wishful Thinking?

Post by Class of 61 »

Guys,

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but people talking about saving money for the bowl trip etc., beating UW by 2 TDs or more etc. have me a bit nervous....
Let's look at reality for a second or two....
1.New Def. Coordination will necessitate SOME changes, no matter whether filled "in house" or going outside BG for the job, especially the latter...That's not all bad, because we all realize and share the opinion that the D needs improvement...which of course is ONE of my biggest concerns
2. The Schedule is NOT favorable to us to do some of the things people are talking about... AT Wisky ( a tough place to play), AT Boise St. ( another "loaded" team), NO home games til OCT 1....hence interest may or may not have been stoked....or quelled. We COULD be 3-0, we could just as easily be 1-2 (I'm "assuming" dangerously that BSU will be a win).
3. "WHY/" to #2?...... 3 new Off. lineman (albeit we feel they're good enough to do the job).... 2 new LB's, 2 new safeties, a somewhat "thinned out" d-line(Though again, some of the younger kids MAY do the job here), questionable CB's.
The Freak will tell you that I'm a firm believer in "playing them one at a time"...know it's an old cliche, but when you look ahead too far, you miss seeing the danger lurking in front of you. I've coached sports from little league thru high school and my standard response to kids has always been that the score is 0-0, so stop asking...and DON"T worry about playing ----H.S...we've got this game to worry about 1st.
DO I WANT TO SEE ANY OR ALL OF THE ABOVE HAPPEN? Quite obviously not...I'm thrilled to death to see the advance pub for us...just get a little antsy that too many press notices aren't always good...or accurate. :?
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

we're the fans and we have the luxury of looking ahead to great things. I just hope the players are not reading too much of thieir own press clippings. My expectations for this season are higher than they have ever been and I think there is good reason for it.

Thank you KDog...As fans, we have a right to our high expectations. You can rain on our parade if we lose, but for now, we should be basking in the glory of possibilities. Achievable possibilities at that...

As for press coverage...if we are truly a darn good team, I am sure we will show it on the field. I remember how well Miami handled this a couple of years ago with all the hype on Ben (only 1 loss).

GO BG!!! :partyman:
