Is that because of where the beer is being kept or the setting of the picture?

Why am I not surprised that this topic was started by a maggot?

In fact, I would be very surprised if it were started by anyone other than a maggot.

First, and this is a serious question. Why are banders called maggots. I saw a vanity plate the other day for a XXX maggot (Forget state/school) but figured they played in a band.

Second, The love of beer should be universal, it just happened a maggot was thinking about its greatness while posting.

Third, Obviously I'm not a maggot, but I think the picture really added to the thread.

This term used in slang means "A despicable person." That pretty much sums it up  The maggots in the marching band are known for picking up the trash or things left behind. They then make the people who lost the items do tasks of sorts to get them back. I don't know exactly how the term started but that's my 2 cents on the issue.

To be totally accurate, maggots are those who march with a sousaphone. Whether they play it or not varies from marcher to marcher. ;)

Not all "banders" are maggots. Just the weird ones.

Ok, I worked my truth table (stastical fun) magic. I couldn't get "not all banders are weird" to come out true. guess I'll take your word for it. Thanks for the info. I kind of figured the slang meaning of maggot, but just not in the reference in regards to marching band members.

You have to be somewhat messed-up in the head to spend every afternoon of the fall semester with a 50 lb. brass instrument on your shoulder... but I guess that could just be the metal polish talking. :P

That stuff was polish? *hic* That explains a lot.

BTW - my 145 pound(back then), 5'4" frame took a lot of damage from that. I still lose all feeling in the back of my legs occasionally. I that is why i only marched 3 years.

This is a good topic...bump back to the top. Honestly though, I wish there was something more interesting going on in the band world. The other threads are getting boring.
