Nice One UK!
I think this is a fantastic hire. Lovett certainly brings credentials with him.
O & B is on the $$$...the defense will be the key to the title. Seems to always be.
Welcome to BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY, Coach Lovett.

I Lovett, haha. I wouldnt mind going to a 3-4 D. But we do seriously lack size on the DL which really bothers me. I really cant believe Derrick Markray is a OG. He would be perfect as a NT. Of course i grew up loving the GB Packers with Gilbert Brown clogging up the middle while the athletic LB and Safteys made tackles. But i just think overall that is a very good defense strategy. I am very impressed with the DC we signed this late in the year. Im ready to see what he brings to the table for us.
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
I know, but at 6'5", 341 lbs, he sure would fit the bill. Maybe if Lovett asked real nicely Brandon would change his mind.Flipper wrote:He'd certainly fill the bill, but Brandon has said more than once that he's an OLineman and will stay an Olineman.Warthog wrote:Derrick Markray = big, hulking nose tackle.

If we had somebody on our staff that the higher powers deemed ready to be the DC, I'm sure they would have promoted him. If this guy is a one year stopgap, so be it -- maybe next year somebody will prove they are ready to step up and be promoted from within. To land somebody with this kind of coaching skill and experience in MAY is a huge victory for our program. This will arguably be the most important season in BG football history, and I'd rather have a skilled veteran at the reigns of our defense than somebody who isn't as good but was hired just so we could say we promote from within.transfer2BGSU wrote:The grass is not always greener on the other side.BGBreeze wrote:I am sorry I am not as enthusiastic about this guy as much as most of you are. Beckman has a great football mind. Lovett brings quite a bit of experience. I believe it's an equal replacement at the very least.Tricky_Falcon wrote:So do you guys think this is a step up from Beckman? Personally I do, look where he came from. But I must say I am not expert when it comes to coaching.

I understand what your saying, but look at La Tech. Bates (the LB coach who was promoted to DC) is the sixth DC in the past five years. Yikes!BGBreeze wrote:I am sorry I am not as enthusiastic about this guy as much as most of you are. That's some serious turnover which speaks more of the program than the individual.

BG running a 3-4.....
For us to do that realisticaly , RS Sophmore DT's Nick Davis and Brandon Curtis would have to have gained a good 25 to 30 pounds over the winter and this summer for a 3-4 to work for us. If both those two were to gain that 25-30 pounds they would rougly be at 300 to 310 seeing as they both came in at 280. I think you also have to have pretty fast linebackers to run a 4 linebacker set as well, but I'm not sure. Like somebody said Parks would make a great OLB, and I think Brad Williams would also make a great MLB, but atleast he's at much better position for him to do damage at DE.

Coach Dakich did it.BGBreeze wrote:I am sorry I am not as enthusiastic about this guy as much as most of you are. I am sure he is a good coach but for a guy to be somewhere for a few weeks and bolt is not the kind of stability that MAC teams need.
Maybe something in Ruston rubbed him the wrong way.

Excellent point, SF. I know a guy that got a job at Goodyear in the IT dept and hated it so much, he quit after ONE week.Schadenfreude wrote:Coach Dakich did it.BGBreeze wrote:I am sorry I am not as enthusiastic about this guy as much as most of you are. Lovett saw the progress BGSU has made and knew this would be a good job.

Looks like a pretty good hire just from what I can see with just a few links describing the man. A firey defensive coach that expects alot from his players is just what we need. I hope the Falcon D gets tired of the offense getting all the glory and decides to make major statements this season.
