I was watching ESPN U today...
I was watching ESPN U today. The BYU at Boise State game was on as part of their "comeback" package. BYU wasn't a great team at that point (averaging 13.3 points per game) and looked to be able to pass on Boise, but what hurt them was their inability to catch the football once it was thrown to them. Boise won something like 28 to 27, but this is after they were already averaging 55 points per game. I hope this game is a reflection of Boise's defense, because I was not impressed with their ability to cover the pass.

ESPNU is kinda buried in the "Sports Pack" on DirecTV, so it's kind of useless unless you like the more obscure college sports like LAX or Men's VB.

I would have to disagree. Beyond the fact that they regularly show old football games, they also show college baseball and softball in the spring. Right now would have to be a down time, but I can't wait until football season. This just means more games to choose from for me. ESPNU was a great idea, I can't get enough of college sports. From the NCAA Wrestling Tournament to the last baseball game of the season, I like it all. To all their own though, in my opinion it was a great investment for all the FOX Sports stations and ESPNU (a mere $12 a month).BGorDeath wrote:I like to think of it as ESPNUseless, unless you are looking for yet another reason for ESPN to drive up your cable rate.

Wait til your basic cable bill goes up $10 in a year or two because of the rights fees ESPN will be doling out on top of the mammoth fees they will be paying to lose money for Monday Night Football. Personally, I'm going to duct tape my ass shut so I don't have to take it up the butt when this happens.duckunder53 wrote:I would have to disagree. Drew,
As a former LAX coach, I can tell you that watching Lacrosse on TV is very entertaining...admittedly, I have some bias, but the NCAA's are usually on ESPN around Memorial Day...watch a game for a bit...you'll get hooked.... Obscure? Yes... to many midwesterners...but NOT to the E.Coast folks...and Ohio's H.S. programs have gone from 8 teams in the whole state when I started coaching to nearly 80 this year. Somebody must be "un-obscuring" the game.

ok ESPNU is not useless. Sure it is not as good as ESPN or ESPN 2, but there are lots of times where they cover college games that otherwise wouldnt be covered at all. Certainly Bowling Green and other MAC schools fall into that group of not very many games televised. So i really enjoy it, but it kinda sucks right now because school is out and there arent really any sports going. I give them credit for replaying some of last years best football games because people will want to watch those if they missed them. ok now about the BYU-Boise St. game... BYU has a better defense than we do in fact quite a bit better, but not nearly as good as an offense. I agree BYU should have won but Boise is really good at just winning games. I really like Boise St and usually root for them to be a BCS buster but they are playing BG this year so hopefully that wont happen. But heres what i think about the BG-Boise St game.... I think that we have a slightly better offense than them, i think we have a better defense than them, but they are probably better in special teams and they always find a way to force turnovers. For those of you who dont watch Boise St. Football and you just look at their record and think WOW thats insane. Well yes they are good and yes they do have a few games in which they win big. However, if you take a look at their last game which best represents most of their games against quality opponents they are one of those teams that is very easy to beat in every stat except the score. Louisville who is a comparable team to BG with the exception of them being a little bigger on the OL and DL. And UL put up all these huge stats but nearly lost the game. Im not going to look them up but lets says UL gained 550yds and BSU gained 278 and the final score ended up being 56-48. Im sure i am wrong but i am just guessing to make a point in general so dont hound me on that. My point is the Boise is very good at forcing turnovers and scoring when they get their chance in the redzone. My biggest fear is that we dominate the game early but dont get Touchdowns and then we make a turnover late and they come storming back and beat us. So we really need to play fundamentally sound once we get in the redzone even if it seemed like a cake walk getting down there. Because they will tighten up and also be looking to pull a tip drill INT or force a fumble
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
