Looking over our roster, I feel we are better suited for the 3-4 defense. We have very little depth at DL, with a lot of fast LB's on our roster. Seeing the 2 young DT's(Curtis and Davis) around town, they have both put on some weight, and look HUGE!!! Not 330lbs. huge, but big enough to play NG that is for sure. Here is the depth chart for a 3-4 that I can come up with......let me know what you think?
DE 77 Thaler 92 Williams
NG 97 Curtis 59 Davis 96 Smith
DE 91 Cooley 63 Mack
OLB 57 Parks 26 Sharpe 99 Briggs
MLB 5 Piepkow 50 Haneline 41 Burkhardt 49 Goodwin
MLB 11 Winovich 56 Johnson 54 Cutler
OLB 48 White 44 Schaefer 95 Jakubowski
SS 24 Perry 36 Hargrove
14 Myles
FS 31 Crumpler 25 Arnold
CB 2 Jordan 30 Dozier 35 Waldron
CB 20 Mayberry 7 Johnson 28 Hood 23 Nicholson
It is possible that maybe a few Freshmen may hit the field, like Mack and Winovich last season.....we'll have to wait and see. The youngsters we have at LB could be VERY GOOD this season(Haneline-Winovich_Schaefer) All are very big and fast!!!
Go Falcons.....
We don't need no stinkin BADGERS!!!

3-4 vs 4-3
FALCON FAN 4 LIFE!!!!!!
I wouldn't be too surprised to see the (new?) defensive coordinator start to bring the 3-4 in. With the type of ball played in the MAC, I think I'd rather have the extra LB.

I think he will too. He's been a 3-4 guy in the past. However, I don't think he will try to change this year so late in the spring. I hope he doesn't. But I would not be surprised at all if he starts to recruit some of that southern linebacker speed next offseason. I am pumped to see if this guy can recruit from the south from up here. Our staff has been going in that direction a lot lately anyway. As stated in other posts, the 3-4 and 4-3 aren't really better or worse than each other but will be more or less effective based on personnel. I think we'll see him recruiting 3-4 guys the next year or 2 and then make the switch.BGDrew wrote:I wouldn't be too surprised to see the (new?) defensive coordinator start to bring the 3-4 in. 3-4 or 4-3
Again I'll say if Curtis and Davis are really as big as O4forHeisman has said say around 295-310lbs, then we might be able to make it work with some time. I'd love to see a linebacker the size of Joe Schaefer at 6'5 and 250 starting at MLB, which is pretty much a average standered size in the Big10 , and thats why its so hard to rush the ball agianst Big10 defenses. Not sure if Thaler has the speed to rush on the outside as a DE though. But I'll say this it appears as though we will be somewhat bigger on DL than we were last year with guys like Mack and Schaefer both 6'5 DE's and Davis and Curtis with a chances to get major playing time at DT postions. The only area where we still look a little small is linebacker with Terell White at only 5'10 and Piepkow at 6'0 but at least it appears that most of the linebackers are at least 225 or more.

I wonder if he's got any experience or pull down in Texas. There was a lot of talk about hitting Texas lat year, but we didn't land any of those big ol' country hosses...hey!, it's kid of cool to write like Keith Jackson talks..Jacobs4Heisman wrote:I think he will too.
