I thought that's where the connection was, I remember hearing about it from an old alum, I thought. (Thus the Blackledge and Harbaugh guesses.)

EDIT:
Bah. I looked it up, and remember where I saw it now, and it wasn't from an alum.

Too bad I didn't see the question sooner, as I knew that one. During the press conference in Morgantown, he gave credit to his daughter for getting Hostetler to transfer from Penn State.

"My daughter winked at a Penn State player, and we ended up getting a good quarterback."

All still live in this area too. Hostetler is an Assistant Coach at University High School where his son Justin is a decent quarterback and conerback.

Not sure it was even one season. It may have been one play.

Story I heard was that he ran the ball late in a big game against Miami. Problem was, it was fourth down -- and Nehlen apparently thought it was still third down.

(There may have been a problem with the scoreboard or an inept chain operator that worked against Nehlen that day. Not sure. This was way before my time).

In any case, it was one more Miami Whammy, and Nehlen's critics never let up after that. The BG News was particularly tough on him, from what I understand.

Hate to bring that up today, though. Nehlen was a hell of a quarterback and a hell of coach. He has richly earned his place in the Hall of Fame.

At Miami(OH), huh? Maybe they turned the popcorn machine on and shorted out the scoreboard again.
