Temple fans...both of them

Post by Falcon30 »

Have they shown themselves on any of the MAC boards? I never got the hang of rooting for UCF in out-of-conference games; I am not sure I can get behind Temple.

Now that it is officially official, I have had time to think about it. I just don't think they will do anything good for the MAC. If they get good, that means we might actually lose to them. If they continue to suck, we have another crap school dragging us down, and unlike Kent and EMU - they don't have other sports programs in the MAC to offset their lack of prowess in football.

Yes, they've been around. And polite. They are excited about the MAC and have nothing but good things to say about the conference.

My brother-in-law goes to temple, and I've seen them play a few games including against us last year at the Link. Temple's problem is not total lack of talent. Does anyone really think that Temple has less talent than mid-pack MAC teams? The problem has been, and this comes from the mouth of some Temple players, is that the team really didn't care all that much. They knew they were outmatched in the Big East and had nothing to play for. I'm hoping that in the MAC, where I believe they can at least be competitive, they will begin to assert themselves and not be another bottom-feeder. I'm far from excited about them, but they will not be as bad as some people around here assume.

I think Temple will do fairly well in the MAC this year. They are better than what meets the eye. They almost beat Pitt last year and they were a BCS team. People look at the BG score from last year and instantly say they are bad for the MAC. Not true, I say.

Plus, look at the what this is going to do for the basketball programs of the MAC (I know this is the football forum, but I hope the Internet Gestapo will be lenient). Temple is required to play MAC teams in basketball as part of the football agreement.

Personally, I think Temple is going to be a full program member before long.

Temple plays four MAC teams this year, and they will be whipped badly in three of them: Bowling Green, Toledo and Miami. They have a shot against Western Michigan.

By 2007, I would expect Temple to enter the MAC with a young team -- and go 4-4 or so.

I think Temple will do all right but as Schade said not in 2005. WMU might even give them a shot.

Temple only got blown out in three of their games last season. Two of them were to Bowling Green and Toledo. They were competitive in almost every big east game they played last season, coming close to winning some of them. If they were competitive with Pitt, WVU, Uconn, than there is no doubt that they can play with Buffalo and WMU type talent. As Jacobs4 said they have talent and were expected to have a much better record last season.

I still think they will be a cakewalk for us this season.

Temple in the 60's

Post by Class of 61 »

Never thought about this much till after reading this thread...but it seems to me that Temple wanted in to the MAC as far back as the late 50's, early 60's or so...Then they played BG and got beat, something like 60-7 or so. That effectively ended any rumors or talk about them coming into the MAC. Could be wrong on this, but I believe it was true.

BG beat Temple 62-20 back in 1966. Don't know if this is the game your thinking about, but it looks about right. Wasn't Temple a member of the MAC in baseball back in the 70's? I thought I heard that somewhere before.

UK,
You're probably right on this one...thanks for the help...as I said I wasn't sure of the date, but knew we creamed them and the talk of the MAC went out the window...As to the baseball thing, I'm not aware of it. But thanks for the clarification.
