It's funny. All the old people complain that America is getting fat and lazy but then they yell at us to sit down. Seems like a screwed up cycle to me...Bleeding Orange wrote: All of the old people that are going to yell at you for standing up.

A state university should not be in the business of capitalism.
If they want to raise prices I have no problem with that, just raise them all equally so that the total price to see every game is the same.
That is my only complaint.
And I don't give a crap about what UT does. Just because they do it does not make it right and we don't have to do the same. I hate most everything they do anyway, that is what makes us better then them.

I hear ya freak, but that is not my point. I know that all of us on this board are more than willing to pay the money to go see BG football. We are also the first to complain about why the attendance sucks. Continually raising the prices is one reason that the attendance could continue to suck. I know for a fact, having had conversations with others, that some people already thought our ticket prices were too expensive.Falconfreak90 wrote:
Look at the Big 10 prices...insane. OSU and Michigan are charging $60 for ONE ticket to ONE game. Are they that much better than BG? I don't think so. And where will that $60 ticket be? Not on the 50 I can tell ya that. Purdue charged $36 a ticket in 2003. Wisky is charging $39 a ticket this year.
To us we think we're getting a great deal, because we compare it to the Big 10 prices. Other people look at the $16 ticket price and say that's the cost of 2 movies, and only to watch BG!?
For me, I'm not complaining about the ticket prices, although I don't like raising them specifically for one game. They could probably make the prices $30/game and I'd still be there for all the games, but I'm a huge fan. We're not talking about the huge fans on this website though. The issue is how the prices will affect those that are only going to one or two games a season.
OTOH raising the price for the UT game could increase attendance for the other home games, I suppose. I could see a scenario where certain people might only go to one game a season, and they would usually pick the UT game. However, since that game costs so much more perhaps they'd choose a different home game, and help attendance that way? Could be...
Actually NFL prices are not that bad, IMO. They're FAR cheaper than your typical big 10 game. I think my tickets last year for the Browns were $33 and they were MUCH better seats than $47 seats at Ohio Stadium will get you. I think you can sit in the lower endzone sections for about the same as our UT prices, actually. And don't get me started on the prices to watch the overrated NFL.![]()
I can understand that many people don't like the NFL, because its all about the money, but in all honesty their prices are generally not nearly as outta whack as you'll find at BCS games.

If you like football, then the BG games are a big bargain. I can take my date, park free, snack at the alumni tent, and watch the game all for around $30.00. Try that at OSU or Michigan. I understand that it now cost you 40 dollars just to park on that damn golf-course at UM for example, plus you gotta dole out another $55.00/person for a seat. Two hundrend bucks for two people would not be unusual. And the bottom line is ---- is the football that much better????? No way! BOWLING GREEN FOOTBALL IS A BARGAIN! GO BG
Could raising the prices for the Toledo game be an experiment?
If it works, maybe we will see one home game a year against a well known opponent where the prices are higher.
Toledo has been doing this for some time, e.g., their home game a couple of years ago against Pittsburgh.
One reason we can't get a well known opponent at home is the payout. If we raise prices for one game and the payout is larger, maybe we can improve our home schedule.

If we could bring Ohio State to Perry Stadium by charging $75 a ticket, I think most of us would not only agree with the idea -- I think most of us would load up on tickets, because it would be easily worth the price.

Doesn't anyone thing that maybe - perhaps - there's higher COSTS associated with a game between arch rivals?
That's my belief.
But if this is a money grab - so be it. For higher desired items, there is a premium to be paid.
A BMW 3 and a Chevy Malibu are basically the same thing. 4 doors, engine, trunk, steering wheels, etc. You're going to pay a higher price for the BMW*.
*This is a very simplistic comparison. Please treat it as such.

I don't have a problem with it, either. Having said that, UT is a guaranteed sell-out--though we have never sold it out for $26 a seat. At some point, it will get priced out of the market. But with both teams being good, I think it will work for this year.
Advance sales will be important. If people wait, and the weather's bad, they will have even more reason to stay home.
Finally, does this give us the opportunity to follow this precedent and use a $26 game to bring in a BCS-conference team for a game on our field?

What is our market? Or, who comprises our market? I might be wrong, but I fear that many of the regulars at BG home games aren't particularly well-off.
