Nolan Reimold pre-draft talk

Post by dduncan »

It's pretty safe to say that Nolan Reimold will be the highest drafted Falcon baseball in some time. Baseball America is posting a pre-draft blog and lists an interesting take on his hitting up and downs:

May 15: Bowling Green's Reimold Looks Like Class Of The MAC
by John Manuel

Bowling Green outfielder Nolan Reimold, the best bet for the Mid-American Conference to produce a high pick in 2005, has regained some helium by pulling himself out of a bad funk. Reimold hit four home runs on the weekend against Toledo, bringing his total to 18 for the season. Prior to the weekend, one area scout with an AL club said Reimold’s swing had been geared too much for home runs during a six-week slump—poor timing for a Northern player who was playing in front of crosscheckers coming in to see him. His weekend binge improved his numbers to .354-18-57, though he has just six doubles due in part to his all-or-nothing approach. Reimold also is an above-average runner and projects to go in the first 10 rounds

Funny........that is EXACTLY what his coach has been telling him. Hit the ball up the middle and to the opposite field and HR's will happen.
As I have said before.......Danny Schmitz does not get enough credit for what he does with limited resources with the BG baseball program.

Baseball America seems to be tracking Reimold on their blog. Here's the latest:

May 17: Nolan Reimold Update
by John Manuel

Bowling Green outfielder Nolan Reimold kept his bat hot with a no-doubt long home run Tuesday in Bowling Green's 4-3 loss to Michigan. His 19 homers leaves him three short of the school record of 22 set in 2002 by current Tigers farmhand Kelly Hunt.

Just so you know, Reimold didn't make the top 200 prospects, according to Baseball America:

Reimold was just named the MAC West POTW for the 4th time this season!

Those that know....is there a chance Reimold will not be back next season? I sure hope he will be there in 2006.

Yes, actually there is a chance he will be back next season. If he doesn't like where he got drafted, he can come back and play his senior season hoping that he is a higher draft pick.

However, unless he thinks he is a round 1-2-3 draft pick, he should probably take the money and sign with where he gets drafted. Here's an example:

Steve Pearce from South Carolina got drafted by the Red Sox in the 10th round last season and he wasn't happy that he got drafted so low. His numbers were comparable to Reimold's and Pearce had a very good college world series. This year Pearce had another decent year, though he probably didn't help his draft stock all that much, if any. He now HAS to take what a team offers him and is also a year or more older than most of the players that he is playing against, putting pressure on him to perform and move up the system.

Let's say he gets drafted in the 10th round, by the Tigers. Last season their 10th rounder received a signing bonus of $55,000.

I got some info about where Nolan Reimold *might* get drafted next week. Thanks to Jim Callis over at Baseball America, Nolan was initially listed at the back end of their top 200 prospects. But right before they sent in their list for publication, Nolan went into a slump and scouts began to sour on some of his skills. Since then, he has improved in the minds of BA and some scouts. It looks like he will now get drafted anywhere from round 3 to round 5. Not bad.

Baseball America will have their full report on Ohio based prospects for the draft on Friday. It's a subscriber service, but is highly recomended for those who follow baseball, like me.

Baseball America came out with their top eligible prospects (college and HS) for the state of Ohio.

Nolan Reimold ranked as the #2 prospect, projecting to go anywhere from round 3 to 5.

Future falcon Kevin Leady was ranked the #30 prospect in Ohio and the #8 HS prospect. Should be interesting to see if Kevin gets drafted.

If Leady skips college to go pro he is making a huge mistake. He may be one of the most overrated players I've seen in a while. Although I hope he proves me wrong and does really well, especially if he does stay at BG.

Now someone that I've seen that BG fans should be really excited about is Marty Baird from Van Buren. I have never claimed to be a scout or a talent evaluater, but I have a good feeling about him.

Over at minorleagueball.com, they had their mock draft today. It is run by John Sickles. John is really well known with his knowledge of minor league baseball for many years. Most well known from his days of contributing to ESPN.com. Anyway, he has Nolan going to the Indians in the third round.

That may be true. I know that Kevin had a pretty down year, statisically. But it goes to show you how high he was probably ranked going into the year. To be ranked #30 and still had a bad year, it shows me that he probably was ranked a lot higher going into the year.

Does anyone have his final stats for the year?

I'm sure he'll stay and play baseball at BG, trying to prove that this year was a fluke and by the end of his junior year he could increase his ranking and draft position.

As a side note, and I posted this in "Other Schools Forum" But read what I said about the Miami (OH) baseball team.
