The trumpets do not set the tempo on Screamer. Going slower just means that whoever counts it off needs to slow down. Also on a side note, while I don't think that Screamer should be played at an incredibly fast tempo, I challenge any clarinet or piccolo player to play faster than I can. (Obvioulsly I'm a trumpet player) I only have 3 valves to work with, as opposed to the many keys on either the clarinet or piccolo.Rightupinthere wrote:It's easy to do. First of all, we ALL speed up that one part on Screamer. You can hear it on any live recording since I got here. It starts out at the right tempo and then speeds up like its hell-bound (which it often is) when we pass the introduction. Pull out a recent recording.jlozer8 wrote:The trumpets do not set the tempo on Screamer. Going slower just means that whoever counts it off needs to slow down. Secondly, most of Screamer is runs for fliccs and clarinets (correct me if I am wrong Em) and those aren't as hard as one would think. So it is possible fliccs and clarinets can play it as quickly as you. It also might have more to do with the player than the tune as well.

Oh, I definitely was NOT saying that all trumpet players can play it faster than clarinets and picc's. I was just saying that I bet I can, so it is more to do with the player. 8)SaxyIrishTenor wrote:Secondly, most of Screamer is runs for fliccs and clarinets (correct me if I am wrong Em) and those aren't as hard as one would think. I don't care how many runs they have, not one flicc can play it faster than Lozer and hit every note like he does. I will stand by those words now and forever until someone feels likle they can prove me wrong.SaxyIrishTenor wrote: Secondly, most of Screamer is runs for fliccs and clarinets (correct me if I am wrong Em) and those aren't as hard as one would think. Well, it's not all entirely runs, but most of it is pretty straightforward fingering, just fast. The second-to-last bit, though, took me FOREVER to get.... it's definitely what we call a finger-flopper.
I know I can't play it super-fast and get every note right.... I'm not really that good at playing flute. But some of the music majors are pretty amazing at it.... in all three sections.
I still remember my reaction freshman year when I went in for my playing audition, and Laura and Lestie had set Screamer for the sight-reading test... Oh it was bad.

Three sections?? Euphonium, Baritone, what's the other?
I think everyone uses Screamer for their sight reading test. I don't remember what it was I read (too nervous starting college and band) but I've been told it was Screamer. All I remember is that it was really hard, and I really sucked. I think it's used not so much as an accurate test of your sight reading ability, but rather to harass and scare the hell out of the Nugueyes. I know that's why our section uses it.

Of course! But L-Core told me she had your nugeyes playing the fight song at or above tempo this past year, for their sight-reading test.

That's not really a bad thing. I would rather play Screamer for an audition than the piece below, which is what jlozer8 gave the trumpets this past season.goofyeuph wrote:What?!!!!L-Core didn't have our Nugeyes didn't play Screamer for their Sight Reading?? Wait until I talk to her agian

We didn't use Screamer, but our part was equally intimidating. We "played" it, and then played the real sight-reading.goofyeuph wrote:Three sections?? Euphonium, Baritone, what's the other?![]()

OH GOD NO!!!! Not a chromatic scale!!!! Boo. Someone really left you out in the cold in your music education if you can't play that confidently and correctly.FliccGirl wrote:Of course!
