Why not move some of campus out by the stadium?

"Besides...I think you'd have a real problem selling the idea of schlepping it all the way over to the athletic complex to the profs who would teach there and have offices over there[/quote]
1. What do professors do at schools with wider ranging campuses? They couldnt do the same thing at BG?
2. This was not a talk about revenue...this was a discussion about attendance. Students conditioned to walk that distance would be more likely to do it for games and such. I have been on this board countless times after games and have seen people unhappy with the student attendance. if its not a problem why are people doing this?

I don't care what profs do at other campuses, the discussion is about BG. Good luck getting them behind the idea of putting buildings out by the football stadium with the hope of getting a few more students to attend. From what I've gathered, the perception amongst the faculty at large is that too much $$$ are already devoted to athletics.
Student attendance suffers when we have another event like a vacation, the OSU/Michigan game or the halloween party at OU competing against us.
Really bad weather also plays a part. None of those factors would be impacted by the proximity of a classroom.
On the topic of revenue, you're talking about spending millions of dollars to build classroom facilities in the most distant reaches of campus with the slim hope of drawing more people to an activity that they've already paid to attend. I can gaurentee you that somwewhere in this Quixotic process, someone would raise the issue.

It was also meant to make the campus more attractive.Flipper wrote:I don't care what profs do at other campuses, the discussion is about BG. If you want to make campus more attractive, maybe we should alter our student recruitment strategy and bring in more students that look like this. That would make for a more attractive campus in my mind.Germainfitch1 wrote:It was also meant to make the campus more attractive.

Take a look at Flippers comment back on the bottom of page 3. Why aren't the students filling Anderson Arena?Germainfitch1 wrote:Students conditioned to walk that distance would be more likely to do it for games and such.
Todays students have so many more "luxury" items available to them than the students enrolled in the 1980's, '70's or '60's.
Cable television (ESPN Sportscenter, HBO, Playboy Channel)
X-Box or whatever video game is the fad of the month
DVD/VCR
Computer/Internet
Back when I started at BGSU in Fall 1984, we did not have our own computer - you went to the computer lab, you did not have cable tv in your residence hall room, we played Pong on an Atari, no one had a VCR, and only Al Gore and NWLB had even heard of the Internet

Germainfitch1,
As I asked before and you have ignored, what would happen to all of the practice space that is laid out so close to our athletic venues? If you start filling in that space then our team would have to practice elsewhere. And that does not benifit them at all because that means they are farther away from training and medical facilities they may need. I personally like the way campus is laid out. Academic at the heart, residence halls on the perimeter, and parking beyond that. Having classes close to facilities will create parking problems. Just look at the lot by Anderson Arena on nights when there are home basketball games.

Sorry - I was being obtuse. I just had visions of people arranging sex for recruits. Or maybe it was visions of me going way out of my league.......ah nevermind.Germainfitch1 wrote:What does this mean?Falcon30 wrote:*cough* Colorado U.*cough*PGY Tiercel wrote:Yeah, but if they ain't going to the football games, neither am I

I have to say that based on the ridiculous premise of this post, I am pretty disappointed that this thread has reached four pages. Seriously?
