2005 BGSU predictions
Ok, I really want to see us go undefeated and I think there is a great chance we will, but here are my honest opinions on our upcoming season, including our predicted record if I were to bet money on the season.
11-1 (7-0) inluded is winning the MAC champ game...bowl game is TBD
I think the only game BG will lose this year is the weekday game at Boise. BG has NOT played well AT ALL on road weekday games in the past two years. (2003 at Miami, 2004 at NIU, at Toledo)
I think they will beat Wisconsin because they match up well. Wisconsin's strength is always their defense, but BG's offense is so potent, that they will put up at least 28 points on ANY team in the country, imo! Wisconsin will struggle to put up 28 points no matter WHAT team they are playing and no matter how bad that teams defense is.
Agree/Disagree??

11-2. MAC Championship and a bowl victory. Losses to Wisconsin and Boise. Boise, because they have won 39 of 40 at home and it's a cross country flight in the middle of the week. Wisconsin because everyone is penciling that in as a victory for some asinine reason. They lose a few guys on D and all of a sudden it's a lock. Like it or not, we need to be flying under the radar to win a game at a Big Ten Stadium, that's how we beat Purdue. I have no clue why people think Wisconsin won't be ready for us, and no one has seemed to mention that Camp Randall is as tough a stadium to play in as there is. Are we better than Wisconsin? Maybe. But if we are, it's only by a point or two, ala Purdue. I know the MAC doesn't get due respect, but it's still MAC vs. Big Ten anyway you cut it. Whoever they have lost, it's STILL Wisconsin. So many on these boards complain about BG not getting the proper amount of respect and recognition, well, than why is everybody down on Wisconsin? There, my two cents. We may not get enough respect, but I don't see how we can just sqwak like we can easily knock off perennial Big Ten powers.

BG is better than Wisconsin, by a touchdown or two. I'd be more surprised to see BG lose that game, than to see them win by more than two TDs. Two things about the Purdue analogy - (1) Purdue was better than this year's Wisconsin and (2) This year's BG is better than that year's BG (speculation, of course).
Camp Randall is not that tough of a place. Wisconsin has lost plenty of games there over the last few years, including OOC games like UNLV in 2003 and Fresno St. in 2001. In fact, in 2000, 2002, and 2003 they lost 3 games at home. In 2001 they lost 4 at home.
MAC v. Big Ten doesn't mean poop to me (he said "poop") as there are, consistently, some MAC teams that are better than some Big Ten teams. Now, MAC v. Ohio St. or Michigan might be a different story.
Clearly, Boise St. will be BG's toughest game. Playing in Boise at night is quite a challenge.

11-2 is my take on this upcoming season. Boise is Boise and it will be tough. The other one that has me concerned is Miami. It's a game we HAVE TO WIN and in the past, whenever that particular scenario rears its ugly head, we come up short. Hope I'm wrong this year!!

We might lose at Wisconsin, Boise State and Miami. I think we'll win at Whisky and lose at Boise. I really don't know about thqat Miami game. That Miami game sticks out on our schedule. We're probably going to have to win that one to win the East. Beating a good MAC team on the road is the final hurdle for this team.
The last two weeks of the season are going to be insane. Miami on the road and UT at home.
I hope the Freak is working on some relaxation techniques because things could get awfully hairy.

I was going to predict the same record and no I don't think it would be enough. Miami won't lose twice. This team could go undefeated or be sitting at home in December. All I can say is that we better show up in Oxford, unlike two years ago when it looked like we strolled in half-drunkSchadenfreude wrote:Forced to bet a lot of money... I'd conservatively wager on a 9-2 regular season, with losses at Boise State and Miami.
Obvious question: Is that good enough to win the division?
The sky is the limit this season, but those two road games are going to be tough.

I'm not sure why so many of you are so pessimistic about our chances to beat Miami.
Anyway, it seems that we can suffer from being either (1) overly (unrealistically) optimistic and (2) overly pessimistic. It doesn't make sense to say BG will be 13-0 and never be challenged, but at the same time I worry that some of you are underestimating this team.
