That article was the literary equivalent of a splatter gun. It hit a lot of points, but we're unsure of the target. To start with his playing history and end with his owning Wendy's franchises is a tad fragmented - and that's being generous.

Was this in the sports section or business?

Would you prefer they not write stories about former area athletes?

This is a new section in the Sunday sports called "In their words". They give a synopsis of the athletes accomplishments on and off the playing field. Then do a little interview to reminisce about the athletes career and what they have been do since. It is one of the few pieces that I try to read each Sunday.

Stories yes, but that had the beginning of 4 different stories under 1 heading. I do not like that paper because of their arrogance. They try to put themselves in the same league as a New York Times, or a Washington Post which they will never be with the demographic of their area. Not everyone that reads The Blade is as educated as we are here.

I certainly don't like the Blade either, but I love it when they print ANY stories about BG athletics, especially ones highlighting the past accomplishments!!! They seem to print quite a bit on BG Sports as a whole, so most of my complaints about the paper are in other areas.

I was a Freshman in 1963 when Howard Komives was a senior. There were about 9,000 students on campus. This was the era when we had to stand in line to get into Anderson Arena. Komives was the nations leading scorer in an era before the 3 point line. He was just amazing. He also set the record for the most consecutive free throws in a row which I believe was 50. I was at the game when he did this. Without doubt, he was the Big Man on Campus for that time. Remember, players only had 3 years of eligibility at that time.

My father was one of those standing in line with you back then. When attending games at AA in the 80's, 90's, and 00's with him, he would get on the topic of Howard Komives and go on and on and on. While he occasionally mentioned Darrow and Thurmond, the guy he really raved about was Komives. Komives was among the very best players in the country. I wish that I could've seen him play myself. An opportunity to see archived footage of HK would be incredible.

What's wrong with trying to be like some of the best newspapers in the country? Sure they may never get there because of their area, but it's a good goal for smaller newspapers to have

Same with my Dad. He was there when Anderson and Perry coached...lucky SOB!

He talks about Komives all the time....Komives and Thurmond! And he speaks highly of Jimmy Darrow as well.

Komives averaged 36.7 pts a game???

Without a 3 pt shot...unreal.
Career scoring average of 25.8 is phenominal.

I liked the article...yeah, it wasn't the highest quality but I enjoy any stories about BG athletes past, present and future.

My fav line?

"I knew I was going to college to play basketball, but it was a hard decision. I eliminated Ohio State".
