Tomorrow (Tuesday), is the MLB draft and a couple BG players may get drafted.
MLB.com has the draft, live, over the internet. It's quite boring. Usuallly just scouting directors calling in their picks. But for current/past players like Nolan Reimold, Andy Hudak, and for future falcon Kevin Leady, BG could have 3 players get drafted. I'll be listening more for the Red Sox picks, though I'd like to see Nolan get drafted high and to the Red Sox (they need OFs in the minors).
Check out: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/event ... /index.jsp for a link to the live draft tomorrow.
Also, check out a profile and video of Nolan Reimold under the R's at:

I don't believe this is the entire list. MLB.com has put out the same format for players for the past couple of years, and occasionally leaves out some players drafted.
I'm a little surprised to see Andy Hudak not signing with a MLB team yet. They must think he doesn't have a true position. Erik Morrison, Ball St. MAC pitcher of the year was signed by the Yankees after the end of the MAC tourney. $15,000 signing bonus.

If the Marlins happen to draft a BG guy, you'll get the best updates available on how they are doing. I'm doing the radio broadcasts this summer for the Marlins Short-Season Class A team, where a majority of draft picks play their first season. I guess I don't have much more information to report, I'm just rooting for the Marlins to take Reimold when/if he is available.
And why is no one talking about Badenhop along with Hudak and Reimold? The way he has been pitching I think he deserves a look.

You know way more about the MLB draft than I do, I'm sure of it. But my question is how can a player sign w/ a team already? The draft hasn't even taken place. I thought a player was allowed to be drafted two times (after high school and after their junior year of college). If the player isn't drafted after their junior year, then they're available to be drafted after their senior year, correct? And if a player is drafted after his junior year, the team that drafted him still owns his rights if he decides to go back and play his sr. year, correct? I have read up on it a little, but with the draft not being as "big" as the NFL or NBA, it's a little new to me.

The Jamestown Jammers? I've listened to them on www.sportsjuice.com before! Sweet gig man, is this your first year doing it?NY-BG-FAN wrote:If the Marlins happen to draft a BG guy, you'll get the best updates available on how they are doing. There's an exception for a player who is a fifth year senior, like Hudak and Morrison from Ball St. Once their season finishes, the player is essentially a free agent and can sign with the team who either bids the highest or a team that the player feels is the best fit.But my question is how can a player sign w/ a team already? Let's say Reimold gets drafted a lot lower than he thought, say the 9th round. He is in control of the team that drafts him and can sign with that team until BG's first day of classes (assuming he continues his education). If Nolan still isn't signed and reports to school and attends his first class, he is back in the draft pool for 2006 and will play for BG next season.

I know it, if they can sign all or most of their early draft picks the lower affiliates may be in for great seasons. 7 of the first 79 picks, and 4 of the first 44. The problem however is that the Marlins have had trouble recently signing picks.dduncan wrote:I couldn't tell you about Badenhop.
You'll see plenty of draft picks this summer. The Marlins have 7 of the first 79 picks in the draft.
Actually, the Marlins has had really good success signing their top 15 or so draft picks, which is really what any MLB team is looking for. Now, sometimes it takes longer than normal to sign the higher round guys. But, for the Marlins, they have signed most of their top players. Anyone after the top 15 rounds or so are either guys that will have little impact or is a HS kid who has expressed interest in college and would be very tough to sign.
The Jeff Allison saga is a different story. Drafted #1 in 2003 by the Marlins, he signed, got into trouble with the team, OD'd and almost died on heroin and now is just starting to come back to pitching in the Marlins system.
I'm sure if this link works, but check out their past drafts:
