On the pre game radio show, Coach Brandon said that he was going to red shirt Anthony Turner and that Washington would be the back up to Omar Jacobs.
In the athletic dept. post game statistics, true freshmen listed as playing were Peter Winovich TE, Andy Campbell DL, and Brandon Mack DL. My guess is they played on special teams.

salsa, Campbell and Mack played a number of second half downs at DT and DE respectively. Campbell is very highly regarded out of the powerhouse Warren Central program in Indy. They produced approx. 7 D 1 players just last year! Mack is the Rochester NY player via the Maine prep School. These two young men are big- I mean real big- for freshmen. Mack is quite a prototype DE - maybe 6'5". These guys are listed as second teamers and played as second unit players.
Winovich, as noted somewhere by posters, has looked very good on special teams, particularly punt and kick off coverage, in both games. He seems quite fast and is listed as a tight end. It was certainly nice to see his entire family on the field after the game Sat. He is from the Pittsburgh area and I am sure they are very proud of him. Very highly recruited player who cited our coaches and the family atmoosphere among our players as major reasons for choosing BG. This is the guy that Paterno an Willingham came in late on- he remained committed to the Falcons.
These three are the only freshmen to play(so far).
Go Falcons!

Winovich is going to be monster on special teams this year. He can really fly down the field considering his size. I think he also got some time at tight end. Brandon Mack actually recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter mop-up time.
Washington didn't impress me much in his playing time. I would feel much more comfortable with Van Johnson in there based on what I saw in the spring game, scrimmage, and last night.

My guess is that Mack and Cambell will be redshirted, Cambell I'd say for sure, Mack not as sure. Interior d-line will have depth now that Leininger is back. My only question with Mack is can Crossley, Parks, and Newble handle just a 3-man rotation? I hope they can redshirt because I'd love to have these guys around another 4 years!!!

That might apply for a medical redhsirt, but not for a standard redshirt. I looked it up. Google is our friend.....

Damn, I could have tried out when I was in graduate school. If only I knew, I could of got my butt kicked all over the field.

It looked like Washington was told not to throw the ball. On one play he ran back 15 yards and took the sack when he could've thrown it out of bounds.BGGrad01 wrote:Washington didn't impress me much in his playing time.
