Scoreboard...

Post by BelieveNBG »

to start on the positive note, it was great to see the team introduction on the video monitor with the roar of the speakers as the team was announced. The scoreboard is a great addition and I am sure that those that are running the audio/video need to get used to how to run this new additions. Things that need improving...

-when a player makes a "great play", do a better job of getting the picture up. This will go along way with getting the fans in tune with who the players are and will help promote more fan energy.
-when the picture is put up, make sure it's the "RIGHT" player (BJ was put up for PJ, several times.
-when number 21, Cole Magner makes a reception, don't announce number 27, Dan Macon
-when pass is intended for number 1, Charles Sharron, don't announce Steve, number 12 that was no where near the play
-last, limit the airtime of the Wood County Hospital advertisement (although I know they are the biggest supporter of our team and they do a great job getting our injured players back to the field  )

This is our HOME stadium and should be the one place where our players are known correctly. In the end, great addition of the scoreboard that certainly helped boost the atmosphere of the Doyt. I am sure things will improve as everyone gets used to our stepping it up more towards the "big time".

GO BG!!! :supz:

The lines were unbelievably long. I wouldn't be surprised if people tried to bring their own food and drinks to the game next time.
This is what we started doing. The concessions are awful, and the lines are a mess. We just bring in some snacks and drinks in a lunch box. As long as you have no glass containers, it isn't a problem. Obviously, you can't bring a hot dog in, but chips, snacks, etc work.

Finally, you try to eat right before the game. 6 pm is a tough gametime for that. But you want to do anything but stand in a concession line.

Has the U thought about some of the little kiosk-type things like Panera has kind of spread around. You could serve the drinks out of those, which might free up line space and keep people who only need drinks out of the lines.

I went to the BG at Miami debocle (SP?) last year and was quite impressed with their concessions stand up. They had kiosks like some have mentioned, that would be cool.

Also, at UMich they have Mr. Spot's kiosks at "The Big HOuse". .. Mmmm Falcon Football and Spot's couldn't get much better for this guy.

Concessions situation was noted by one key university person in no uncertain terms within my hearing. I would certainly hope this would result in more lines, more help, more kiosks etc.

Comment about the students standing.

Post by Warthog »

I will say this up front, I love seeing so many students at the game and I love that they want to stand. That being said, I must take issue with what happened last night. My kids are all memebers of the Falcon kids club so that get free reserved seats. Apparently the ticket office is trying soemthing difference this year because I saw they had a special group of "comp" tickets that we received. As it turns out, our seats were below the walkway on the south half of the stadium. Well, they redid the sections this year and the student section is now the North half of the West stands all the way up to the press box. The section we were in (Sect 11, row 9) is supposed to be RESERVED seats. But by the time the game was starting, it was overun with students. Then during the game, all stood on the seats. So my 7, 8, and 10 year old are seating there and what are they supposed to do, look at some student back side the whole game, because that is what is right in front of them? :x Again, I am not blaming the students for this. It is the event staff that allowed this to happen.

But for the record, about mid-way through the first quarter, a BGSU police officer did come through the section. He was telling people the can either stand on the concrete or sit down, but they cannot stand on the seats. So, I think they handled it fairly and it worked out fine after that. :)

I drove out by the stadium today and noticed a few things. Frist, the signs that was in place last year stating that students may stand the entire game were gone. I don't know what that is about. There is still nothing in the stadium policies against standing for the whole game and until there is I will continue to stand as long as football is being played. Second, las year as well as this year the student section according to the seating chart on the schedule cards is located on the West side of the Doyt from field level to the top and to the North of the middle stair way. This excludes the chair reserves of course. I know a lot of non-student that sit in this area. I would be in favor of reducing the student section on the NW side of the stadium above the chair reserves. I think it will work if the students relocated over to be around the band as some of them did Saturday. Third, and most annoying was the amount of trash laying around. People drank a lot of beer. It is all over the grass South of the stadium. I know the suggestion of more trash barrels has been made before on here but I only see that as treating the symptom and not the problem. We need to get the cars OFF THE GRASS! As a student 47.4% of my general feel goes to Intercollegiate Athletics. This is $294.00 from 20,000 + students, or about $5,880,000. Thats a lot of money. If I park on the grass the ticket runs about $50.00 yet the athletic department collects at least $5.00 per vehicle to park on the same grass. I went to the top of the East side yesterday right after half time and looked out over the parking lot, it was half empty! Why are we parking cars on the grass that close to the stadium when our parking as shown on all of the maps on the athletic side is in those same half full lots. Some will say it is because the students are parked there as well, who cares. Others will say those coming in are paying to be there and should get better parking. I am paying $294.00 a semester, where is my special parking? Still others will say the Falcon Club should get special areas to park, well I have paid my dues this year as well. The bottom line is we have surfaced parking lots beyond the stadium, at the ice arena, and at the field house. When the are full we have grass areas out between the surfaced lot and the hill on the golf course. They have a postcard in the new bookstore on Main Street on a day game. The surfaced lots are full, the grass is void of cars, and the stadium is full so don't say it can't be done. Another point, by parking cars in the surfaced lot to the East of the stadium people are in line to pass through the tent city. Also, if the parking is limited people will begin to arrive earlier to get parking spots. Go to what we are calling "BIG TIME FOOTBALL STADIUMS" and you will find people arriving 6-8 hours before game time, what a party that will be. Just my thoughts

DD,

I was at the BG/MU games in 1998 and 2000 and their setup is awesome!

hammb,

I hear ya on those porta johns. Last yr at the EMU game in Ypsilanti, i must have counted at least 30 of those porta johns in the lot across from the stadium where we were TG'ing....

I can't understand why they won't put more out there and, please, some GARBAGE CANS!!!! I always bring a hefty sack cuz I know there won't be any cans out there. It is a mess after the games!!!

It would be a HUGE help, if they just made garbage bags available, sort of like the doggie doo doo bags you find in many parks. I think a lot of people just forget to bring along garbage bags, and that would be a "cheap" alternative, and I bet we could even find a sponsor for them. At least it would be easier to pick up than individual cans, cups etc, like some of the tailgate "pigs' leave all over the place now.

Hefty Bags are an essential in our tailgating bins we take (2 big rubbermaid bins). We keep our grill accessories, cups, plates, silverware, trash bags, etc all in there so we always have it. It works out quite well, and I recommend that to anyone.

Even still after bagging our trash we have to leave it there as there are no bins to put it in!

We do the same, but it is at least easier to pick up a bag than 3000 cans or cups!!!
I don't think it is as much of a problem for those of us that tailgate every game, but those part-timers and students need some help with garbage bags.

Well...Let's just hope that they get concessions all firgured out over the next month...I hope we can just chalk it up to not thinking 23k ws going to show up at the game. It was SO GREAT to see the Doyt filled that much!!! That is how it needs to be (or MORE) for all games for the rest of the year!!!
