Robert Redd catches a TD in losing World Bowl effort

Post by UK Peregrine »

I can't find a decent article that shows the stats from yesterday's World Bowl. Berlin lost to Amsterdam 27-21, but Robert Redd caught a TD in the losing effort and made a number of crucial catches to keep Berlin in the game. Like I said, I can't find the stats, but he apparently had a nice game. Did anyone watch the World Bowl?

Here's the stats. Nice line for Redd, 7 catches, 102 yards and a TD. Hopefully, this earns him a shot.

Not to take anything away from Redd but I also heard from someone who saw it that he let the winning TD pass slip through his fingers at the end of the game. It was a perfect, easy to catch pass. He just missed it. Very atypical of him, but a steller game none the less.

I am not sure but I don't believe that last pass was thrown to Redd and it was not an easy catch. The receiver had to dive to try to get it.

It sounds like Falcon Flier has the story somewhat correct as per the last play. The New York Times describe the last play as "with 10 seconds left and the ball now at the 22, Omari Hand hit Ragone as he threw, and on the final play, Norman Lejeune tipped Ragone's pass in the end zone, where it fell harmlessly between two Berlin receivers." One of which I would guess was Redd.

I didn't see the game, just reporting on what I heard. It may not even have been the last pass that was missed, but he was pretty confident that it was Redd that missed an easy pass towards the end of the game that would have won it. Consdering the fact that the person I talked to was from BG and was therefore familiar with who Redd is, I took him at his word. Other than that one pass, he said that Redd had a great game.

On Sportscenter they showed Redd dropping a pass in the end zone during the final drive that would have put his team in the lead. The next highlight had him diving after a tipped ball in the end zone on the last play of the game. The announcer said that Redd nearly made up for his earlier drop with a spectacular catch to win the game.

Thanks for clearing that up Goose. I wondered which story was accurate. Turns out both. Technically though, Redd's catch would have only tied the game, not won it. The extra point would have put his team in the lead. Gotta give them kickers credit sometime, right 'Freak. :D

Redd was #80 and was playing the slot on the left. The guy on the right slot #81 was the guy that dropped the ball on the 2nd to last play of the game. Redd was nowhere near the ball on that play.

Right on, UK! Reminds me of the Browns/Broncos AFC title game in Denver the year of the Fumble. So many folks got down on Earnest Byner saying had he scored and not fumbled, the game would have been tied. NO! The Browns still would have trailed by 1.

Sorry hammb, it was the comparison I thought of at the moment. I will NOT mention it again.

That game was 10X worse than "The...", umm, nevermind.
