More Thoughts on BG vs Wisky from another OSU fan.....
Yesterday as I was playing NCAA Football 2005 for ps2 with a Michigan friend of mine along with another OSU friend and another OSU guy. I brought up the BG-Wisconsin game and asked them about what they thought about the game. Both OSU fans said that there is "no way" that BG can beat Wisky. I was shocked , I thought for sure these football "no-it-alls" wouldn't think with all that Wisky loses that BG has no chance of beating Wisky.
They simply said that Wisky has the "big boys" up front and will just run the ball down our throats and control the game. I tried to tell them that we won't be having a 260lb starting DT anymore and will likely have 2 280+ guys up front which is the main reason why our run D is so bad cuz of pysical manhandling of our front four. But that didnt' seem to change their mind. They actually thought Wisky would crush us. I was shocked to say the least , but then maybayb I shouldn't have been when your talkin' OSU fans thinking BG is any good. Tell ya it made pretty mad!
Kept it to myself though.

I do think that we have a better team than Wisconsin, and this is probably our best bet to beat them. We're returning a lot of talent, and they lost a lot of talent. We've got Omar, Pope, Sharon, and Sanders all coming off big seasons.
Even still it wouldn't shock me completely if Wisconsin came out and pounded us until we were covered in blood and dirt. They have a reputation of producing some massive, talented OL, and they usually put a quality RB behind that group. This is a team, with a coach, that has a reputation of being able to line up man on man and pounding the ball down the throat of some of the best defenses in the Big 10.
That said, I do think that we could (should?) win. They must find a good RB, Davis was their best and he graduated. He was hurt, so their other guys have to have some level of experience. Their passing game is abysmal so we should be able to load up against the run. Most importantly is that our offense should be back in full force, and they lost a LOT of talent off a very good defensive unit. I'm fully expecting us to put up about 30 points on them. If we don't I'm not sure we can win. If we turn the ball over I don't think we can win either.
I could make out Alvarez's gameplan against us pretty easily. They're going to pound the ball down our throats and they're going to try to keep Omar off the field. They'll be trying to work as much clock as possible on every drive right out of the chute. If they can work these 12 play 8:00 drives that end in scores we're going to have some trouble. The reason we lost at OU last year (and OSU the year before) was that when they needed to they could line up and smash us for 4 yards a play until the time was gone. We MUST figure out how to stop that or I'm worried could suffer the same fate.
I do like the fact that Wisconsin has a history of underachieving against non-BCS opening opponents. I have a feeling we'll provide a little more venom in our bite than Akron did if they underestimate us.

Well, that just goes to show how split this is. The best man in my fast approaching wedding believes BG will beat Wisconsin by at least 2 TD's and maybe more. This is the same friend that said if we had turned Josh loose at the start of the third quarter the last time we were in the shoe we would have walked out with a 10 point win.

How many times did we fail to stop the opposition on 3rd down? I hate our D when it comes to 3rd down.hammb wrote:The reason we lost at OU last year (and OSU the year before) was that when they needed to they could line up and smash us for 4 yards a play until the time was gone. thats because those two only know about osu and prolly know nothing else about college fotball..i like osu and bg a lot of but i know about whats going on with other teams. and i know enough to know that wisconsin is breaking in a lot of people in some key positions that omar and greg brandon is gonna exploit them.
i dont think it will be as close as the score might indicate. i do know it will be tougher for us if we have to score inside the redzone especially by the student section side. but if we can score on a lot of 20 +yard plays were golden. but when it comes down to it i see BG in this one by no less than 20. no joke thats my prediction

My brother, the Wisconsin fan, seems to think that the Badgers have their RB for the season. Brian Calhoun, the transfer from Colorado, appears to be the front runner for their stud back this season. He's solid, but I wouldn't rate him as high as Davis. Calhoun is 5'10" 194lbs, he's a good sized back that is 3" taller than Davis and five pounds lighter.hammb wrote: That said, I do think that we could (should?) win. Wow....BG by no less than 20 points???? And I thought I was optimistic!tekekini wrote:thats because those two only know about osu and prolly know nothing else about college fotball..i like osu and bg a lot of but i know about whats going on with other teams. and i know enough to know that wisconsin is breaking in a lot of people in some key positions that omar and greg brandon is gonna exploit them.

That would be great, though.

It certainly would be sweet. However, the betting man in me would definitely take Wisky with that spread.Falconfreak90 wrote:Wow....BG by no less than 20 points???? Tekekini, are you offering the points? I'll put $50 on Wisky & the points please.
I think we've got a good shot to win this thing. I expect that I'll be betting on us depending on what the early spread looks like, but I just don't see us winning by 20+ points.
but I just don't see us winning by 20+ points.
I do. We have 15 times more offense than they do. if our defense can hold them to 35, which shouldnt be too hard becuase wisky O=horrible, when they actually had players. its gonna be worse breaking in new guys. The quarterback is less than average in my opinion. defensive line is a question mark. secondary is a question mark. i think they are most solid at linebacker arent they? let em try and chase down 4 and 5 wideouts all game and see if they have the energy to try to bring down pope.
I like the way you think when you are not talking about the buckeyestekekini wrote:I do. Like someone else said we may give up some long drives that take up 6-10 minutes. We cannot allow this to happen. I would rather be in a shootout then have the tempo controlled by their running game. If I was the coaching staff I would absolutely sellout on stopping the run and make them beat us with the pass. I would rather see our secondary get burned on a 75 yd pass than have an 8 minute, 75 yd drive. This is all easier said than done but we should definitely expect to see a heck of a lot of Calhoun and Stanley (if he is not suspended) coming our way.

(REALLY HARD TO TYPE WITH A WISKY ACCENT... REALLY HARD.)
IF BG picks up it's D, and comes out firing on all cylinders they will ROCK Camp Randall, better than the Sway(Which is REALLY awesome to see....)

That's funny. Nevada-Las Vegas said you Badgers was easy.Badger8843 wrote:one of the toughest places to play in the nation

Our line is bigger. Look at the spring depth charts. You are 302 across; we are 307.this is a very physical football team who loves to cram there huge and i mean huge offensive line
You've got "a good running back."and always a good running back down peoples throats
We've got The Pope.

Come on back when you can serve up more than cliches.when youve said Wisconsin youve said it all
I respect Wisconsin. Try to earn it.
