Harris

Post by SaxyIrishTenor »

I just heard a rumor from my dad that Harris was named back-up QB over Frye for sure. Nothing I can find corroborates yet.

The last I've heard from Tami's thread and KFFL.com was Josh has the inside track for the number two, but a decision like this doesn't really matter. The preseason games will largely determine where Josh is on the depth chart at the season's start.

Harris is, and should be, #2 currently on the Browns depth chart. Savage has expressed interest in going into the season with just Charlie & Josh to back up Dilfer. I truly hope that is how it plays out. If so, this will be Josh's shot, that we all hoped he would get. He'll have every opportunity to play his way to keeping that #2 spot. Whichever of Harris or Frye wins the #2 job will also have the inside track at the starting job when Dilfer leaves/retires in the not so distant future as well.

Of course you hate to bring up the possibility of injury, but remember that almost no QBs take all their teams' snaps in a season. It would definitely be a +EV bet to put money on one of either Frye or Harris getting some PT in the 2005 regular season. If Josh outperforms Frye he'll be the guy to get that chance. If Fry outperforms Josh then it is likely Josh will be relegated to the #3 spot.

Come on hammb. You're usually so insightful and astute, but this comment deserves the Mr. Obvious label.

I know, but people seemed to be happy to see Harris at the #2. I thought it would be obvious, that as the vet (I guess) he'll have the #2 job to start. I wasn't trying to make an insightful statement, just pointing out that it will likely be an open competition for the #2 spot, once training camp opens.

"Later in practice Josh Harris avoided a rusher, rolled to his right, and threw a deep touchdown to Lance Moore down the sideline."

Unfortunately, that sentence didn't wrap up with "And Moore crumpled in pain after cutting his leg on his crack pipe..."

But for the Josh-related factor.... AWESOME!!! :D

ahh yes, yet another confirmation of Harris' superior ability over frye. in the plain dealer today... "Frye Third: Rookie quarterback Charlie Frye has made good progress but is still third behind Trent Dilfer and Josh Harris. "I think he's become more confortable with the system and he knows and understands the terminology better," Crennel said."
