for making the MAC look bad. I hate to say it but it looks like the MAC is taking two steps back this year.
Awful:
Toledo has been outscored a combined 126-35. I hate the rockets but it is not good that one of our conferences steady teams has been absolutely rocked in its first two games.
Akron. Not only did they get pounded by a so-so PSU team they lost to Midd tenn today.
Bad:
BSU might have been competitive with BC but they were humilated today against the boilermakers. Judging by the stats in this one Orton looks like the best player ever
WMU might be able to beat up on 1-aa teams but they were beat 63-0 by VT

UCF, Marshall, Miami, CMU, Buffalo,
At least these teams have played hard but still not a win against 1-a competition.
ok:
NIU keeps it close with Maryland but then needs a missed 2 pt conversion to escape with a win against SIU.
EMU I believe they are the only team in the conference with a 1-a victory. Of course it was against Buffalo but its still a win, and they kept it close against the gators as long as they could.
Kent st. I'm just happy they beat liberty.
Props to OU and BG. Took care of business in their 1-aa games and battled hard against teams that were clearly head and shoulders better then them in their losses.
So the MAC is a combined 7-22 and six of those wins come against teams like SEMO, VMI, and liberty and the 7th win is a given because it was a conference game. Most teams only have one non conference game left. If we don't win a few of those, the MAC is going to look like the worst conference in 1-a. I am disgusted that we have teams in this conference losing by scores like 63-0, 59-7, 63-14, 63-21.
Well at least it's not us.

I feel your pain man......but props to you guys for going out and taking care of business....saw Omar put up some good #'s today except for the 1 pick. Big 12 North let us down bigtime today, even though I have much dislike for every one of of those teams that lost and actually cheered against some (especially K-State and Nebraska).

Omar now has only one pic in over 100 career throws. I like that ratio

Hey... now wait a minute! Not fair to lump NIU in with the group not holding up their end of the MAC.

Are you aware of the following:

- Starting QB Josh Haldi is out with a stress fracture.
- Starting WR's Hurd and Powers were suspended this game for missing class.
May be out the Iowa State game too.

And SIU is a damn good team. A #1 ranking in div 1-AA is nothing to sneeze at. Their trio of RB's is excellent... including a transfer from Minnesota and Auburn. And their OL is huge. Unlike NIU, they could play their Sr leader at QB.

I'd equate the SIU kids playing NIU with the furor the Falcons have when they play the Buckeyes. On any given day....

I am fully aware that SIU is one of the best teams in 1-aa. But do you want to classify NIU as being equal to that?

I don't think he was saying that. SIU was just jazzed up and trying to prove they can compete on any level. Isn't that what we were trying to show when we went into Norman and Columbus last year?

SIU is not to be taken lightly when they play NIU just like we are not to be taken lightly when we play Purdue. That's a good football team that could probably finish in the upper half of the MAC, at least.

Having said that, the MAC is having a poor year in the out of confernece games. We aren't impressing, and in many ways we are getting blown out. Is the league that much weaker than last year? Maybe, maybe not.

I agree with both of you and what you have to say but NIU is one of our best teams in the MAC and the best teams in the MAC shouldn't be going down to the end with the top teams of a a division below us. I'm glad they won though

After giving it much thought, I would have to say that the MAC is down this year. Marshall had a loss to Troy that doesn't look bad at all now, and NIU is having some issues to deal with, but they will be worked out in the next couple of weeks. So those two teams and our Falcons are the only teams that look like they could play with pretty much anyone in the country right now, NIU being a wild card actually. But the other teams that are supposed to be playing well right now are definitely not living up to their end. Miami and Toledo are sucking it up right now. And the rest of the league, what do you really expect out of it. But you know what, I would have to say that we need to wait until next year and the year after to really see which direction the MAC is headed, because the recruits that all teams have gotten this year from last years success will be getting playing time, and we will see what effect last year really had. Just give it time. As long as the Falcons keep soaring higher, and show that they can play with anyone, then let's just be happy that we are not the other schools not living up to their potential, or end of the bargain.

This thread is right on the button. I was thinking the same thing as I saw the scores scrolling across the bottom of my TV screen. MAC fans have very little to stand on when BCS-conference fans start to bash us. We've done nothing - well, very little at least - to dispel the idea that last year was a fluke. Last year, Chryst had a legitimate argument when it came to a third bowl game. I don't see that happening this year.

Let's remember that most of the big boys did not take the MAC seriously until THIS year. In previous years, they were working on the game after us instead of preparing for us (like Marshall was looking at OSwho instead of Troy).

It's way too early to even be thinking about the two bowl bids and if the MAC deserves a third. Chryst will be working on a third of he sees there is a deserving third team (NIU).
