Hey Guys
Hey Guys
Hey all, I'm a newbie here. So glad I found this site. A little bit about me: I live in Lynchburg VA, been here me whole life, but I'll be attending Bowling Green next year as a freshman. Football is my favorite sport, and I plan on going to nine games this year. I'm gonna miss Boise State (can't go out there with classes that day and the next morning) and Buffalo (going home to watch UVA/FSU). I've been a UVA fan my entire life, and traveled to as many of their games as I could in the past (Went down to FSU last year, am going to Syracuse this year). I already ordered my tickets for Wisconsin, just wondering if there are any other games I need to buy tickets for ahead of time, or could I wait till I get to the gate to get them? I was thinking I might buy Miami-Oh tickets ahead of time too.
I'll be coming up for orientation July 6-7. If there are any other incoming freshman on here who are big football fans, and don't have a roomate yet, then let me know.
Where are the best spots for tailgating? Anychance the dorms would let me keep a small propane tank in the dorm for my tailgating?
If anyone could give me a heads up on some traditions here, that would be cool. Also, could anyone list their favorite places to eat in BG, and where are some good places to get some BGSU apparell, other than the bookstore?
One last comment, I noticed that there is someone here from Charlottesville...Were you at UVA's spring game? If so, do you remember talking to me (I assume I was the only one who came up and told you I would be going to Bowling Green). I'm sure it will be nice meeting you guys. If you all do a big tailgating party, let me know and I'll try to come by.
I can already tell its gonna take me a while to get use to the lingo here. What are some of your abbreviations? I'm used to thinking Tennessee when I see UT but I'm guessing that is Toledo...

Welcome to the best group of people on the net! We're very close knit, but at the same time we're more than willing to let anyone in on the fun!
As for tailgating we tailgate due East of the stadium, in the grassy field area. Anyone who brings anything is more than willing to join us. We deep fry food (pizza rolls are the fave, with Oreos the new love), we grill, we drink beer, and we've been known to have a Jaeger bomb or 20. We're usually out there at least 5-6 hours before gametime, and we generally have a blast. We always have a TV to keep tabs on the early games, and if we're playing an early game we've been known to have a playstation out there
Hope you become a regular here, and as the season gets closer, you'll pick up on our tailgating plans, for sure.

Welcome, new guy!
Take some time to skim through the links at the top of this site, there are photo galleries to show the history of BG as well as some of the knuckleheads tailgating! I think there's also some stuff here and there about traditions and the like. First thing you want to do is learn to sing "Ay Ziggy Zoomba" its a blast!
Again, welcome to the board and good luck with your career at BG!!!

Just because you are going to be a first year student doesn't mean you can't skip classes! You will get used to it...give it timeBGSUVA wrote:I'm gonna miss Boise State (can't go out there with classes that day and the next morning)

This guy is going to be a pleasure to have around, I can tell already.BGSUVA wrote: Anychance the dorms would let me keep a small propane tank in the dorm for my tailgating?
You can probably wait until the week of the game to buy tickets at Miami, but, if you do, get there early because the will call window (not plural, at least in 2003) may be an absolute mess. In 2003, I don't think everyone was in the stadium until the first quarter was coming to a close.
Second thought, they are doing a lot of stadium work on Yager. The smaller student sideline seating is being replaced. When finished, they'll have a bigger new grandstand on that sideline.
It might be worth asking at www.miamihawktalk.com whether or not the new seating will be ready and what that means for the chances of a early sell out.
As far as apparel:

SBX is probably your best bet. I browsed the university bookstore a couple months ago, and SBX seems to have much better football-oriented stuff.

Re: Hey Guys
Welcome to the site and good luck at BG. It was the best 6.5 years of my life.
Propane tank. I'm with Schad, I'm gonna like this kid. Just tell your RA that it's your hukka pipe. You should be okay.
The best spot for a tailgate - just look for the orange banner which says "Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com" in brown on it.
A bunch of us are going to meet up in Madison Friday night. You're welcome to come along. I'm going to presume you are under aged so we can't buy you drinks.........we can buy extra drinks for ourselves and just set them on the table, however.

No no no - you are correct in thinking UT is the University of Tennessee. TU is Owens Community College - Toledo.BGSUVA wrote:I'm used to thinking Tennessee when I see UT but I'm guessing that is Toledo...

Re: Hey Guys
welcome aboard. to answer some of your questions... best spot for tailgaiting is obviously out in lot 6 by the stadium. it might also be a good idea to make some friends that live on wooster street, you'll usually see a couple houses out there bright and early for some kegs and eggs. its always fun to go to the bars too, but thats gonna have to wait 3 years for ya. about the propane tank... they probably wont let you, but they dont have to know. just make sure u hide it whenever theres a fire alarm (which is gonna happen a lot since you'll be living in a freshman dorm). places to eat - im a fan of pita pit, grinders, frickers, bdubs, jeds, junciton, skyline, and myles. avoid on campus eating at all costs. if you cant, the union is probably your best bet, anywhere else and you might come down with some sort of serious illness. u might wanna check out this citybucks thing bg has now. i think the website is www.citybucksbg.com you can put money on there and use it sort of like a debit card at a lot of the restraunts around here. its the same card u use as your on campus meal card to its convenient. to get some bg stuff at places other than the bookstore u can check out sbx like schaden said. i hear the 'bg on main' store is also pretty good, but thats probably a lot of the same stuff at the bookstore. hope that helps. my names mike by the way. i'll be living at campbell hill apt 100 next year, you're welcome to stop by any time for an enjoyable game of beer pong.
