Because most of campus as you know it didn't exist then?

Top photo is Eppler (The old men's gym) and nothing beyond it. You WOULD see the BA building and Memorial Hall and Olscamp Hall were they there then.

The second photos has a road running in front of the original college buildings (Hanna, University & Mosely) with that same Eppler building in the upper left.

Is that your final answer?
Final Answer....
Actually, I believe it's the Carillon, donated by the Class of 1979.

that view is almost like you're standing in the education building and looking out to the left of the library, although the picture was likely taken from University Hall, and the Education Building would be in the endzone, the BA Building is roughly where the stands are in that picture.

Those are awesome. To see nothing but farms past Eppler is really mind-blowing.

For those still trying to orient themselves:

In the top photo, the stands are positioned right where the sidewalk would be leading east past the Business Administration Building (on the left) and then Memorial Hall (also on the left) toward Jerome Library.

I believe the round a bout was taken out when the McDonald's last erection was build. But I agree with you Metz. There is no reason why there isn't a sidewalk running from the Administration Building and University Hall. And I love the old steps as well. It makes University Hall look more open to people. There used to be a flag pole in the center of the circle in the 1940's when the V-5 unit was stationed in Williams Hall. Progress is goo, but we have let to many unique things about our campus disapear (sp?). If you ever get the chance to go to Jerome Library and look at the old year books you will get quite an education. That is where I learned a lot of what I know about BGSU!

I think I can speak for many of us when I say MacDonald has never really stopped building erections.

(Especially on a warm, sunny day).

Tell me if I'm crazy (no jokes, Lyons!), but does it or does it not look in that top picture like the pointed roof from Olscamp is sticking over the roof of Eppler South? Perhaps the future ghost of buildings built to make presidents leave? Or maybe I'm crazy? Shut up Lyons...

And yes, there was an Eppler South and an Eppler north. If my University history serves me correctly, Eppler South was the Men's Gym and Eppler north was the Women's Gym. I bellieve between the two was an outdoor natatorium (prior to the construction of what became Eppler Center with the connecting middle section that exists today).

You're correct on Men's and Women't gym. The pool was indoors, however.
