Rango still getting awards!

Post by Metz »

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University softball standout
Gina Rango has been selected to the 2005 Easton All-America team.
Rango, a junior in 2005, was chosen to the third team, it was
announced Wednesday afternoon.

Rango is the first-ever Falcon chosen to the Easton All-America squad,
and is the first BGSU softball All-American of any kind since 1988.
Amy Lienhardt earned second-team honors from the National Fastpitch
Coaches Association that year.

Rango, a native of North Lima, Ohio (Boardman HS), was the 2005 Mid-
American Conference Player of the Year, and also was named to the
NFCA's All-Great Lakes Region First Team for the third time in as many
years. Additionally, she was an All-MAC First Team choice for the
third consecutive spring.

Rango led the Falcons with a .368 batting average on the season, and
also paced the Falcons in hits (60), triples (five), total bases (82),
slugging percentage (.500) and on-base pct. (.432). Rango was second
on the team in homeruns (two), runs batted in (31), walks (16) and
stolen bases (15).

Just a junior, Rango has already placed her name at the top of several
BGSU career records lists, including homers, RBI, batting avg. and
slugging pct.

In MAC games only, Rango hit .356 in 2005, and also led the Falcons in
slugging (.508), on-base pct. (.465), walks (11) and stolen bases
(seven). She was second in the league in OBP and tied for second in
bases on balls. Rango deadlocked for third in steals and tied for
fourth in RBI (14), while ranking sixth in the league in hitting in
conference games.

The Falcons finished with an overall record of 29-30 on the season,
and went 2-2 in the MAC Tournament. BGSU qualified for the league
tourney for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.

Forty-five players were named to the 2005 Easton All-America first,
second and third teams from NCAA Division I, II and III schools, NAIA
schools and junior colleges.

I found it odd that National Champs Michigan had no one on these teams yet Bethune Cookman and San Antonio and Sacremento had multiple choices. Any idea if there is a special criteria for this team?

I looked into that before I posted the story and couldn't find anything anywhere. There are a lot of players that aren't on there that should be. Maybe it's teams that use Easton bats or something?

that's probably the case. there are also no arizona players on the list...or ohio state...i don't think any of the players are at "Nike" schools. there's probably some requirement in regards to the equipment used by the school for eligibility.

that notwithstanding, gina is a very good softballer and a product of one of the finest softball programs in perhaps the toughest softball league in ohio. way to go, gina!
