HoJo Do To to Camp Randall is an easy walk

Post by BigAppleBucky »

Probably less than a mile and you shouldn't be walking it quickly.

If you walk along west University Avenue, one of the first buildings you'll see would be Vilas Hall. I believe that's where "You Don't Say" originates. (NPR syndicated program usually broadcast on Saturdays)

To get to Bascom Hill (the older a beautiful part of campus) go north on Park. Or, you could rent "Back to School" with Rodney Dangerfield. That flick was shot on campus.

That's what I like to hear! I think we're going up Friday morning, coming home Monday afternoon, and want to walk EVERYWHERE, unless we venture out Friday and find a round of golf somewhere.

A quick PS

Post by BigAppleBucky »

Many visiting fans have greatly enjoyed their trips to Madison. And many Badger fans enjoyed their trips to Columbus last year in spite of dire threats of revenge for whatever transpired the night of the 2003 OSU-UW game in Madison. That may be sour grapes on the part of some Buckeye fans (they lost on a rainy and cold night) or there might have been more instances of rowdy behavior than normal.

I recommended coming into the Camp from the East. If you (as a visitor) come in from the West (Breese Stevens) you will be subjected to some taunting on the part of the drunken college apartment dwellers along that street. Generally it's pretty benign, but I suppose it could have gotten out of hand that night in 2003.

The UW students do have the imfamous "ES-FU" chant. Sort of a take off on the Miller Lite ad "Tastes great - less filling" only with eat poop - F ---- You. I'd go into the history, but it's really pretty silly and hopefully will die out someday.

That's about the worst of it.

Here are what a couple of UCF fans had to say last year:

Post #342 Just got back from Wisconsin: Pics of Wisconsin game and UCFan Day Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys,

I just got back from Wisconsin. What a crazy trip. Since we were not sure if the Hurricane was going to postpone our 12:17 Orlando Flight to Wisconsin/Chicago. No one from ATA could tell us what was going on or knew that OIA was closing.

We drove on Thursday from Orlando to Jax to Charlotte, NC to fly to Chicago on Friday @ noon. Of course the kicker- Our Flight never got to be postponed! O yeah!

The Wisconsin fans are awesome. The Wave was one of the coolest things I have seen at a game and I would love to be able to do it once at UCF. They went Slow Mo and they Sped it up and then they reverersed it. Cool stuff.

Jump Around was great. I recorded it on my digital camera. Great band. Everyone was having a great time. Loved the Sea of Red!

It was a great trip and I was glad to get away from Frances. Here are some pictures. I also have my 2004 UCFan Day pics.

Feel free to look at my Wedding pics (Knightro was in attendance). Chicago is an awesome city!

Post #1008 My Madison trip report- what a GREAT TIME!!! (long) Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well finally have some high speed internet access here in downtown Chicago- so decided to give my UCF road trip report for Wisconsin. I was going to post pics on my site, but forgot to pack the stupid USB reader, so I'll do that later.

First off, note to all UCF fans- when we play Wisconsin in 2009 you NEED TO GO TO THIS GAME!!! Madison is a great town that seems to be the perfect size- big enough to keep busy, small enough to avoid the congestion. State St is a great area to go have a drink and some dinner- and just walk around. Weather was absolutely perfect for us- especially considering what we had going on back home.

Now on to gameday. Pregame atmosphere is very different than most colleges down south, but very cool still. Rather than having large grass parking lots people just park all over the city (kinda like Auburn) and go to these outdoor beer and brat bars. Inside the stadium though it just doesn't get any better than Wisc. I've been to UCF road trips at S. Carolina, Auburn, Ga Tech, UGA, UF, Clemson, Cuse, and Penn St but I have never been more impressed with a gametime atmosphere than I was at Wisc!!!

The student section is just awesome, I can only hope one day UCF students would be that great. Their wave slowdown, rowing, and JUMP AROUND were so much fun and actually made me forget the game for a minute which is hard for me to do at a UCF game as anyone could tell you that knows me. Not only did they do fun things like that, but they were seated at kickoff and for the most part stayed until the clock was 0:00. The Wisc band was something else, they played up and down the streets before the game, on the field pregame, and they had a 5th quarter show that lasted 20 minutes (and was a blast to watch) after the game which they do every game. In addition to all that during the game they went around to different sections of the stadium and played. You can't help but enjoy it and be a little jealous that we don't have that ourselves b/c I would love to see more of our band before, during, and after our games!

After the game we talked to the absolute NICEST fans I have encountered at any road trip. Soon as we walked into a tavern down the street from the stadium we were given beers from some Wisc STUDENTS! And then we had so many fans come up to us asking for more info about UCF, asking about how our homes will handle the hurricane, and then I even had a lady seriously offer to have us stay at her place b/c the hurricane extending our stay. I was just blown away by the kindness we received!

As for the game- all I want to say is I like what I saw. I watched a team give great effort, play smart without stupid penalties, and play with class. I felt Moffet did a great job considering what he was up against and now believe he will be our QB for a long time. I think the offensive line did much better the 2nd half than the first half- so I know they are learning. Only bad part of weekend is the loss of Peter Sands...man that hurt. Personally though, I am pumped and ready for the West Virginia game once I get back from Chicago! I'm hoping since UCF lost that the sports gods will give me a Cub win on Wednesday night and 40k+ for W VA!!!

PS- It was great meeting so many of you from this board this weekend, hope to see ya at Penn State!

Post #1909 Yeah, definitely... "What he said!!!" Reply

Amen to everything UCFJay said!

Friendly, friendly folks!!! "Guides" taking us directly to our section in the stadium. People coming over to us in the beer garden asking if anyone had greeted us and welcomed us to town yet. Fans getting the bartender's attention and moving us to the front of the line. Fans asking us to join their tailgate and offering us beer and food.

The town is full of many, many, many interesting little shops and restaurants. I never guessed that this area would have anything interesting in the way of food, but there's every ethnic food type I can think of, and it's GOOD! And of course, you've gotta try the fried cheese curds (I no longer think Little Miss Muffet was a crackpot).

BTW, we stayed at the Sheraton, which was GREAT, GREAT, GREAT! Wasn't the closest hotel to the stadium, but the shuttle picked us up at the airport, took us to the Alumni Association pre-game party at the Union, did stadiums runs on game day, took us wherever we wanted to go in town, came and picked us up and brought us back from wherever we were in town (including other hotels). They also took me to church on Sunday morning and were waiting for me when I came out, and when we switched hotels on Sunday night (because of Priceline, NOT because we didn't love the Sheraton), they took us over and dropped us off at our new hotel. Their breakfast buffet was only $6.95 and quite extensive.

I don't know how bad the drunk students are there, but when we went down to Tallashasse, we had to walk right by frat row to get to Doak from the closest free parking. Beeing with some other UVA students, a few of which were drunk, it wasn't the best situation.

NICE, beer!!!! :D

So what you're saying is that we don't need to "bring heavy armor for all the stuff they'll be throwing at you (Batteries, Pennies tucked in marshmallows, etc.) Also, leave your ego at the gate, or you're going to end up in a fist fight. Finally, if you stay overnight in your RV, don't expect to get any sleep owing to the constant stream of obscenities and pounding on the sides of youw RV you'll endure. "????

Even better!

That brings me to another question...what are some of the worst fans (i.e. students who go too far and throw stuff, people who are into vandalism, etc) on our schedule and in the MAC? Do we have anytrhing comparable to Maryland or West Virginia?

I don't know what you consider "comparable", but some of the bigger horror stories I remember stem from NIU, CMU and WMU road trips (though nothing personally), Toledo fans are just dumb, but if you head up there in '06, make sure you get a buddy to drive, or find reinforced side mirrors for your car... :x

Maybe badgers have thick skins, but

Post by BigAppleBucky »

Everyone reported having a good time at West Virginia two years ago. We haven't played Maryland in football and I never read any complaints about Maryland fans the last four times we've played them in BB.

Finally, the only fans (and former players) who've complained (alot) about Madison have been Buckeyes. Don't really know why. Maybe some of them come with chips on their shoulders or maybe there's been some bad luck.

I know Herbstreet complained about the penny stuffed marshmellows. Opposing players now run through a protected tunnel instead of the open one as in 1990. Also, security has cracked down hard on anyone doing anything dangerous such as throwing batteries. (Unfortunately, they've also cut down on drinking.)

The 1993 Michigan post-game situation cooled a lot of jets. Since then things have calmed down at CR. (Students rushed the field after a big win, some were nearly crushed to death. By luck and great EMT work, no one was killed or maimed.)

I know I heard bad things about the old barn (pre-Kohl center) when our hoops team played at Madison in the early 90s.
