Voyage to NIU

Post by dedicatión statión »

OK so i feel its time to get the travel plans ready for NIU, there definately needs to be a BG tailgate and/or party somewhere close to the stadium. It is a hostile environment so we need all the BG fans we can get up there
keep the dedicatión flowing, falcons!

The Mrs. and I will be going to the NIU game. Leaving the kids behind & celebrating our 10th anniversary on the 24th. It was actually her idea.

are there any plans developed? alumni events, tailgating etc?

anyone have any good suggestions on hotels in the area?

you going Freak?

Me and my buddies are leaving Columbus OH on Thursday at 5pm, planning on getting out past Chicago, having a brief respite, and then on to the game on Friday. We'll be pulling into the Holiday Inn at NIU around 2pm on Friday. From what I've been told there is a falcon club / alumni association sponsored tent at NIU where BG fans can get in for $10 per person.

I ordered a jersey a couple weeks back, I'm desperately hoping it arrives prior to the game.

Either way me and some friends will be at that tent, so if you see a Bernardo #7 bg jersey stop by and have a beer.

Falcon Club Bus to NIU

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

There is a Falcon Club bus going to the NIU game. It departs from Lot L at Perry Stadium at 10 AM. (Leaving early enough to be there for the Falcon Club Pre-Game event) Cost is $55 for Falcon Club members and $60 for nonmembers. (Doesn't include the ticket). Call Robin Veitch at 419-372-7063 or email at: [email protected]

Apologies if this was posted elsewhere....just getting caught up on a LOT of posts in this forum!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I just came back from Dekalb last week. Constructions is notorious. Took me 8 1/2 hours to get there from Toledo. Constuction in Indiana on nearly half the bridges on the Indiana Turnpike (1 lane for about 35 miles all together). Close to Chicago I-80 and I-90, both major routes, under construction (4 lanes each way down to 2). Took me 3 hours to go 20 miles. Please allow 8 hours to make this trip. I dont want to scare anyone off, we need all the fans in Dekalb but I know people who are leaving around 1 or 2, they will never make it. Leave Thursday night if you can, enjoy Chicago and the surrounding areas.

This one is gonna be a biggie!!

Major,

Wish I could go but I won't be able to....esp on a Friday night. OK, NIU and Temple won't happen for me this yr. But, ESPN's got it so I'm set!! Plus, an 8+ hour drive from Toledo to DeKalb? Add 2 hrs more for me in Akron...10+ hours. I think I'll watch it from the cozy sports den.
You and the missus have a great anniversary!! Mrs. Freak and I just celebrated 10 years last Friday. I think she still likes me cuz she hasn't kicked me out....yet.

I'm taking the boys to CMU and Ohio. Gotta save $$$ for the MAC title game and bowl  :D :supz:

Anyone who wants to come over ('61, 99, 96, BG BGBreeze...ect) is welcome. We'll get a couple Gionino's pizzas and have a few cold ones.
Just let me know!

GO FALCONS!!! ROCK THE HUSKIES!!!

Freak, we will make some noise for ya at the game

Lodging around the stadium is somewhat full, but we got reservations at the Travellodge on W. Lincoln Hwy. They still had some rooms as of yesterday. From the map, it looks like it is maybe walking distance to the stadium. Hopefully not a complete dump, but the price was decent.

we will be leaving Friday sometime.

Since I was treated graciously at Doyt last year, I'll offer the following.
Huskie Stadium, located on the West side of the NIU campus, is basically on IL Rte 38 (Lincoln Highway).

You may wish to use the Peace Rd exit instead of the Annie Glidden Rd exit to access Lincoln Highway. Things can get clogged up at Annie Glidden and Lincoln Highway. Peace Rd exit is East of the NIU campus. Using Peace Rd will also allow you to see the metropolis of DeKalb.
$5 Parking for you will probably be available in the Convocation Center lot which is West of Huskie Stadium.
Those of you arriving close to game time..
I politely suggest you get those cell phones burnin and help each other out.
By the way, post your thoughts if you would please on the new Convocation Center when you get back home.

Mitch,
Glad to see another AZZ er has made it to the "magic" 10 yr. mark in matrimony without getting kicked out by a spouse...(only kidding, of course). Seriously, it's good to see you posting...and from the good old USA of course, rather than where we thought you might be when we talked at the MCB last Dec. Hopefully, will see you at Tailgate during Homecoming. BTW, did you DVD the OK. game? You know I'm always in for a copy, no matter the cost. 8)

If the Hotels in DeKalb are booking up, be sure to check out any hotels in St. Charles, IL. St. Charles is a very nice far west suburb of Chicago, and is only about 25 minutes east of DeKalb on IL-38. I live in the area, so I'm avoiding the hotel scene.

A couple things to point out about traffic. The traffic is definately bad on 80-94 in IN and IL, but its worst during rush hour, and especially LATE NIGHT. Starting around 11PM or Midnight, they've been doing 20 min. full lane closures, where they just stop ALL traffic, for 20, then open it for 20. If this is the time that you'll be driving, I might suggest taking I-65 south to US 30 until you get to I55.

Also remember that when you get into IN, you will go back an hour, so you "save" an hour of driving. Thats all for now, Jeff
