Toledo mishype

Post by kdog27 »

Seriously why was every sports publication so hyped on the rockets this year. I don't understand what was so great about their offense last year to make so many people think that they were going outscore every team they played
8/30 at UNLV L 28-18
9/6 Liberty W 49-3
9/12 at Marshall W 24-17
9/20 Pittsburgh W 35-31
9/27 at Syracuse L 34-7
10/11 Eastern Mich W 49-14
10/18 at Central Mich W 31-13
10/25 at Ball State L 38-14
11/1 Buffalo W 56-29
11/15 Northern Illinois W 49-30
11/22 Western Mich W 34-17
11/28 at Bowl. Green L 31-23
They lit up the scoreboards vs Liberty, EMU, NIU, and Buffalo. NIU being the only game on this entire schedule where you would get exctied about scoring that many points. Other than that they look pretty average. Was it just because Bruce had such a great completion % and rating. I can complete screen passes too. Everyone knew their defense was going be horrible but I don't know why so many people thought this would be an offense that outscores everybody. I don't see any indications of that from last season.

He maybe one of the most overrated qb's ever in the MAC. All he did last year was throw screen passes and passes in the flat. Real star there

Hell, I can throw for 70% completion if all I did was throw the ball behind the line of scrimmage on screen passes.

Heisman? Yeah right! :butthead:

indeed. I dont get how no one in the general sports fan ppol seems to realize this. If all you do it throw to a reciever 4 feet to your left behind th eline, you are going to complete passes, even if you are Bruce G. Its like an Alan Iverson deal here, I can put up 40 points a game too if I take 50 shots. The context of the stats are almsot as important as the stats themselves.

Hey now, I was saying this all offseason. I have a copyright on that saying! Bruce is overrated because the national pubs see his 70% completion % and drool. Unfortunately they don't realize that all those completions are bubble screens.

People even talked about him as an NFL prospect. I say that when the NFL scouts dissected Josh and saw our offense, wait till they see UT's.

They were also the easy pick. The MAC is on the rise and they were the favorites to be this years, Miami, OH.

About Bruce, stats don't tell the truth. I hate stats. Players are judged too often on their stats.

Understatement of the year, from a UT DB in today's Blade:

"We knew what we wanted to do," Broussard said. "But we just couldn't execute on the field."

I liked the one where Amstutz said something like "when playing quality teams like Minnesota and Kansas..." I didn't think it was legal to put quality and Kansas in the same sentance when desribing thier football program. A quick check of collegefootballnews.com and I saw they predicted Kansas to go 1-10! And Toledo got smoked by them!

This Saturday's game is pivotal for the Rockettes. EMU is going to come out ready to go for the jugular. They have a new coach and a new sense of optimisim. If UT isn't ready, the Hurons (not the Eagles) could whack them too.

Lose and your 0-3 and probably done for the year. Win and you come home to play a beatable Temple team to even up your record and you still have a shot at salvaging the season.

We'll see....
