That may or may not be true, but for right now he's just another student. If he decides to also try out for the football team, and makes it or not, I still have no issue with it. 1470 had interviews with this kids family & Amstutz right when the story broke out about him going to school. The line from the family was that he just wanted to become a normal student and pursue a higher education, with no intentions of football. Amstutz said that he'd be welcome for a tryout, but that he wouldn't be getting a scholarship offer (yet anyways).
I love to make fun of UT as much as the next guy, but for right now all they've done is let a kid with a troubled past try to make amends and better himself with an education. I have no problem with that. If he says that he wants to play football and they plop a scholarship on him, then I think they give us every right to make fun of them, but until that time I won't.
