Wait, scratch that I was thinking with my Miami head...

Boy, Miami people REALLY have an over inflated opinion of their institution.

It seems to me Temple should try, too.

If the Big East isn't interested in Massachusetts, then the MAC is the only other way for UMass to go I-A.

Right, IF the Big East isn't interested in UMass. Assuming UMass wants to make the jump, I think the Big East would be interested. First, Big East football sits at 8 members...rather smallish. Plus, there are rumblings that the Big East football members might eventually split from the non-football playing members. That would ruin some long-standing rivalries, but we all know that football rules in these situations.

I'm not sure.

Massachusetts was a holy terror in basketball a few years back, and I didn't see the Big East jump at them... or Temple, which has been good at basketball for a long, long time.

It's hard to figure what the Big East football schools might want to do. I agree that eight is too small.

One theory -- the travel partner theory -- is that they might want Central Florida.

The fact that Louisville and Cincinnati are in the fold gives them a lot of options... Memphis, for instance.

Hard to know.

I get the feeling Connecticut looks at Massachusetts as a kid brother and wouldn't want them around. Just a hunch.

The ACC raiding the Big East changed everything.

Article on WKU-MAC deadline

Post by PGY Tiercel »

Interesting Article in todays Lexington Paper. Obviously the Deadline has passed for WKU to join this year, but by all accounts it looks like they are pushing forward to becoming D-1A in football and joining a new conference (MAC). Seems like many other conferences weren't even interested.

Here are some upgrades they will be doing to their athletic facilities.
-- A committee will choose one of three architectural firms in the next week to 10 days to conduct a $35 million renovation and expansion to L.T. Smith Stadium.
Smith Stadium, a 17,500-seat facility now, will grow to 25,000-30,000 seats in time for the 2007-08 season. The stadium has not been renovated since it was built in 1968. The renovation will repair floor tiles, ceilings, cracks in the concrete and the air-conditioning system. It will also include some type of end-zone facility that would house coaches offices, a locker room and weight room. This project also includes the $1.55 million Academic Athletic Performance Complex and a $1.5 million track and field complex.
The project will be completed in phases so it won't disrupt football season.
--An $8 million parking structure between E.A. Diddle Arena and Smith Stadium is scheduled for completion in early August.
-- WKU also is working to add 300 seats to the baseball field which would bring its capacity to 1,100 seats.
