Home Game Events???

[MAC Falcon]

Look at all the big programs around the country and see what goes on every weekend for their programs. I would really like to see BG start buliding more lead-up activities into their home games.

Something like Notre Dames Rallies or any thing that can get the campus buzzing and people in the mind set for the game.

Any ideas what we can do as fans to get these kinds of things started.
(I'm not saying that I don't enjoy every trip to the Doyt, I just want more I can never get enough)

Besides, if we need ANYONE to lead a rally before the Marshall game, we don't deserve to have people in the stands.

I dont think we NEED anyone, but imagine how rediculously pumped everyone would be with a visit from J5? I realize this wont happen, being in the NFL and all, think Chuck Norris is free?

I read in a sports marketing journal about MLB players going door to door to litterally invite fans to games. How about the Senior Captains or some of the more visibly players hand out flyers personally inviting students to the game, this could be done say at the union. I know the Student numbers are great, but they need to continue to be great and this would also make the team not just the guys who play on saturday's but the guy who gave you the personal invitation .. .

You Misunderstand. I don't think anyone needs help getting pumped up for the game. I just think there are many of us who are already psyched up for the game and can;t stand the fact that you don't even know a football games is going to take place in this town until 5 hours before the game.

Well the first thing you can do is be like FalconFan1 and bring some prospective students with you to the games.

One game in particular is October 30 as the Falcons take on Eastern Michigan University that evening and the Falcon icers take on Lake Superior State University at 2:35 PM that afternoon. Of course, you will want to get here plenty early enough in the morning. Say 8:30 AM so the students can attend the university's PREVIEW DAY program.

Lots of activities going on Preview Day!

8:30 AM -12:00 PM The display area in the Grand Ballroom and Multipurpose Room of the Bowen-THompson Student Union will be open. Meet with faculty members from various BGSU academic departments. Many of the student support offices have representatives available too.

10:30 AM, 11:15 AM, and 12:00PM - Financial Aid presentations in the Theatre of the Student Union.

9:30 AM - 1:00 PM Campus tours

12:00 -1:30 PM Academic Department Open Houses will be taing place. Usually 12-15 departments hold open houses.

At some point in the morning, we will be offering tours of some of the residence halls (probably about 8 halls will be open).

Of course, we have the 2:35 Hockey game and the 6 PM Football game as well.

We can always use volunteers this day! Sit in the Union in the morning and talk to prospective students and parents about why you decided to attend BGSU. Heck, I'll even supply the coffee, cookies, and muffins!

I'll come and tell them how I go to Toledo but spend all my time in BG trying to bring down my own alma matter.

transfer, thanks for the mention. The October 30 game is a GREAT game to attend with HS juniors or seniors or at least invite them. The Preview Day is an awesome event (yeah, you do a pretty job there transfer!). How many of us have relatives, neighbors, friends or coworkers with kids who are making college choices?

Tell them to go to the game to cap off Preview Day. What better way to experience what college is all about? Go to a game with 12000 current students.

Try inviting someone. It is amazing to me how many people will go if you ask or preach a little.

We're not OSU; EVERYBODY bring a friend or family to the games- that is one way we get to 26,000.

Man, what gets you pumped more than figuring out how to drop close to 6 figures here after a few years?

I agree that I'd love to see this turn into a bigger thing, but until we can consistently get 30,000 people at the game, there just aren't enough hard-core fans to make this happen. People haven't been raised to live and die by BG football the way they have at other schools. People who are into BG football are generally students and alumni, but unfortunately their kids end up being OSU or Michigan fans at some point.

If there's any one MAC school I've gone to thats got a great gameday atmosphere that could be emulated, its W. Michigan. The biggest difference there is that their stadium is surrounded by crappy houses filled with students, so people are partying there all around the stadium until just minutes before the game. Again, this goes back to FREE BEER. Jeff

I realize I fall into the Old Fart category these days, so bear with me.

While I'm a big fan of beer, free or otherwise, it really doesn't draw me to a game. As a father, however, the more activities I can get me son involved with makes the game more attractive.

I've grumbled about this before - yes, it seems that becoming a curmudgeon is inevitable - but Noah & I attended the Kent State game last year. It was billed as Youth Night or Family Night or some such. There wasn't really all that much happening to make it discrenable from any other game. Make it that much easier for alums with kids to come to the game and have a good time.

This is what MARKETING is all about. Not advertising - marketing. I know I'm in the minority here, but I love 1 p.m. starts. But if we're going to start games at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m., let's take advantage of it. Have the afternoon filled with activities - some aimed at current students, some aimed at old farts, some in between and some for all. The entire day should be an event.

That's enough griping for now, I suppose.

I thought there was an abundance of activities at the game Saturday. Two radio stations (92.5 and 107.7) were doing live broadcasts. There was a live band on the West side. The students must have been getting free food because there was a line that streched about half way back to the ice arena. Tents on both sides of the stadium. Two youth flag football games going on just outside the stadium on the East side. Tent City! Inside there were numerous acitivities for kids in the Falcon Kids Zone. They had like five inflatable things as opposed to only two or three last year. Maybe it was just me, but I felt more of a "buzz" of activity around the stadium then I can remeber for quite so time (last year not included.)

Wasnt that studetn line rediculous Warthog? That was for the free t-shirt. Me and bacn3 were lucky enough to get there toward the begining, but we still had to stand there over a half hour. I dont understand why they made us wait there til 4:30 when there were several hundred students waiting shortly after 4. WE jsut wanted the shirt, not all the other crap. WE almost didnt get our normal seats b/c of it....

Uh, how did you get a shirt if you go to UT??? I saw the line when we were walking up and I thought that it was a line to get in the game because it wasn't quite 4:30 yet and the gates weren't open. Then I noticed that it was going to some tent so I thought it must have been for food. Why didn't they just pass the shirts out as you went into the game?
