Another QB

Post by falconman »

We landed Tyler Sheehan from Cincinnati LaSalle. He's 6'5" and 200 lbs, he narrowed his choices to us, UC, Iowa, and Michigan.

This kid started TWO games at QB last year while the starter was injured. Am I supposed to be excited about him? He must be converting to WR or DB when he comes here. A 6'5" DB, how does that sound? 8)

He was at our camp and got a offer from us so the coaches saw something they liked in him and gave him the offer. Plus he would have been in the top five in the state of ohio this year if it wasn't for such a strong qb class.

He's supposed to have a very strong arm. It's not like he isn't going to have time to develop behind Turner and (assuming he's here ) Omar.

Was LaSalle's QB last year the coaches son? Maybe we are going after the next Roethlisberger.

If he was offered, there must be something that the coaches liked. Whether it be his athleticism or his QB skills. An early verbal is rarely a bad thing.

I trust this staff's knowledge and evaluative capabilities on the quarterback position more than anyone else in the country. Their track record speaks for itself. He's 6-5 and had some quality schools in the running for his services.

Welcome to BG!

With Turner, Freddie Barnes and now Sheehan, the future looks terrific.

On the Souuthern Ohio forum over on JJ huddle, I requested some info on SHeehan. Here's one poster's input.
Very nice player. He only played in a few games last year. He was 2nd string behind Anthony Kummer, who is going to Illinois State next year. Kummer got hurt in the middle of the season, and Sheehan replaced him and was phenomenal considering the circumstances and who they were playing during those weeks.

Not too many "2nd string" QBs (or any 2nd stringers) get offered this early, nevermind commit, but he's a solid player with a ton of ability who just happened to be behind another very special player with more experience. I was able to see him play vs. Elder and he just made some unbelieveable plays. He's a nice runner too, and showed a lot of poise for a young guy stepping in vs. the 2 time defending state champs.

He'll fit in well at BG. They run the spread as well at LaSalle. Kummer was a great QB too, but I know there were some LaSalle fans who felt that Tyler should have been playing all along. I'm sure there were some who didn't, as well.

Interesting stuff. Here's a Q&A with LaSalle's head coach where he discusses the Kummer/Sheehan controversy.

It mentions Sheehan has a Josh Harrisesque stat line in one of the games he started: 153 yards passing, 2 TD's and 179 yards rushing with 3 TD's.

It sounds like he has a ton of ability. It can't hurt to have another QB on the roster.

I saw this as well. I have been reading on JJHuddle where this kid may be a little timid and back down from hits. It's too bad that he didn't want to be a Falcon though.

I think the people on JJ Huddle are being critical of Pacsley because he badmouthed Ohio State for being "dishonest" with him. For some of those people on that board, criticizing OSU is like spitting on the Pope while he's holding a photo of Mother Theresa changing the bandages on a sick child...

But it is so much fun criticizing OSU!

Sheehan sounds like a quality all round athlete. Our staff is great at plugging guys in spots where they'll have the best chance to succeed. Never hurts to have another solid athlete in the program.

BTW, Sheehan is from the same HS as Mike Thaler! :D

Thanks for the info.
