Of all the things that he screwed up, for some reason, that is the one that bothered me the most. Mispronouncing things is one thing, but to screw up the essence of the game like that was disturbing. :x

It was the first game let's all relax. I heard that the people running the board and everything had less than a day to learn everything. Did they mess up a lot yeah...but by the time our next game rolls along things will get worked out.

I truly hope that things do get worked out by the next game. The next home game is five weeks away, so they should have time.

The one thing that I notice hasn't been asked in this forum is "Why did we need a new announcer, and where did the new guy come from?" The old announcer was excellent, and acted enthusiastic doing his job. Kinda reminds me of the changing of the radio broadcast announcers. (That was not any improvement)

The new guy is obviously an outsider to the program, or he would have had the knowledge before stepping into the press box concerning who Cole Magner is, and how to pronounce his name. Change (as in changing announcers) isn't always a good thing. If it's not broke, why fix it.

Supposedly, he's a big booster.

We need money. I'm glad we have big boosters.

Yup. Although it probably doesn't project a very positive image on our program, if hearing about "Kyle Wagner" (you know, blond haired kid, wears #21 for the Falcons) means a 6-figure check in the athletic dept. bank account, I can let it go...

I agree...were there problems? Sure....but c'mon....we finally have a new board and still there are criticisms? Give 'em some time to get to know the system.
Just my 2 cents...

Flip,
My boys loved that fire background with Falcons too!

Having Yogi Berra as your PA announcer has certain comedic prospects. I can only imagine what he'd do with "Bruce Gradkowski"

BTW,

Anyone else notice the new loudspeakers on the top of the East side? Big ole Sanyos up there. At first I thought they were new AC units for the high rollers.

I sure thought they were air conditioning units myself, but they could have been speakers. The boxes on the west side did have air conditioning added over the offseason though, so I really couldn't tell looking form the east stands.

I cannot stand national television announcers, but at least there is some reason for an excuse there. In your home stadium your announcer should know your star players' names.

I have to question whether this new announcer is "a big booster" and capable of writing a 6-figure check to the athletic department. If he's such a big booster, I believe he would have knowledge of who Cole Magner is, and be able to correctly say his name, instead of calling him Kyle Wagner.

Even if he is a "big booster" he should have some announcing experience before he's allowed to do that job for a major college football program.

I wish we had last years announcer back in the press box.

it's my understanding that the announcer isn't the big booster, but rather that he was hand chosen by a big booster. either way, bring back brady.
on a happier note, CMA professor david okerlund, who announced the band was AWESOME. it was like the voice of God. think he could do football?

I agree with BGGrad01 regarding the top of the scoreboard. I wish they could put lights inside that part of the scoreboard. When it gets dark (as it will be for many of our home games), you can't see that part of the scoreboard, at least not very well. It doesn't look right with the rest of the board lit up.

I'm with the people wanting lights inside the top band of the score board. Maybe they were trying to keep the budget as tight as they could.

I think they need to get some diffusing filters, or alter the angle of the lights on the other ads. Too much glare coming off of them at night.

They need to make the fonts biggers on players names, stats, etc.

It would be nice to have some in-game stats showing on the boards, or at least at half time. It would be nice to have the stats on scoring drives. It would be nice if they could scroll OOC and other MAC scores rather than annouce them. (That would mute some of the OSU score cheers, etc.)

I would like to see them employ some of the talent in the fine arts departments to create BGSU unique graphics. Maybe have a contest open to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members to create the graphic bumpers and such.

I think they need to create a frame on the backside of the scoreboard, and at least put the kind of ad or poster that covered the back of the old board last year.

I wouldn't think it a bad thing to have another illuminated scroll bar pointed towards Wooster. I always thought that was a nice way to promote up-coming events.

I think there should be a plaque listing the game annoucers from the past, and bolt it to the scoreboard mounts.
