What really pisses me off is when idiots like bob davie keep drawling about "Bowling Green State". Bowling green state university is ok, but saying bg state makes us sound like a community college in my opinion.
Well, our school is "Bowling Green State Univeristy." (The) Ohio State University is called "Ohio State" for short, Michigan State University is called "Michigan State" for short, so I don't understand what is idiotic about calling us "Bowling Green State."
I'm much more bothered by "Bowling Green University." Like it or not, that isn't our school's name. Therefore, I dislike when ESPN uses the "BGU" abreviation.
I didn't say calling us bowling green state was idiotic, I said Bob Davie is an idiot. I was speaking of personal preference, not actual monikers. I'm fully aware that our school is Bowling Green State University thank you.
I just don't like the sound of Bowling Green State without the university on the end of it. It sounds too much like san jose state or southwest missouri state. The whole 2 words and then state thing just doesn't sound good to me.

I was going to revise my post before your reply, since, as you noted, you didn't write that calling us "Bowling Green State" was idiotic. Just to clarify, you get pissed off when idiots (and not merely idiots, but idiots such as Bob Davie) call us "Bowling Green State." So, I wonder, to what degree, if any, does it piss you off when non-idiots call us "Bowling Green State"?
We need to be exact here, of course.
If we are talking about personal preference, I prefer that they call us "Al."
pretty much everything Bob Davie does pisses me off. The only thing he has done that hasn't pissed me off was run ND into the ground. That made me giggle. the only people I've heard refer to us as simply bowling green state have been Davie and his partner whose name escapes me. I have no idea what will happen when I hear a non-idiot utter bowling green state. Because of the fact that I regard about 80-85% of the people I talk to every day to be idiots, it may be a while until I have an answer to that question. (insert winking smiley face for effect) I don't often run across Ph.D.s such as yourself in my line of work.
To be more precise, I don't prefer us to be called BGU, I just prefer it to BGS. I rather enjoy the way bowling green state university sounds.

i like that "state" either say "Bowling Green" Bowling Green State University" or "BGSU" but please God no "Bowling Green University" it gives me the creeps
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!
I don't really see what the big deal is. it's not like there is another college named bowling green to get mixed up. It makes sense to differentiate between Michigan or Michigan st, or Ohio University or Ohio St. University. Whether you say BGU, BG, or BGSU people know who you are talking about.

Technically, there is Bowling green community college, AND Bowling Green Technical College down here in KY, so you're not quite right. Now granted most people wouldn't confuse them, but in KY, you are dealing with a below average intellegence factor. I will add that My BGSU bumper sticker did inspire some to ask me if I went to school in Bowling Green KY. So, my opinion is that "University" should be there. Plus, there is the history of being known as BGU.

Boy is the joke on you. Everyone knows that there is no such thing as higher education in Kentucky!

I figured there was probably a community college or something in BG Ky, but I figured the people who go there are the only ones who know about it.
I have been going to TG's site once a day to check that countdown! Does anyone know if they are going to have another scrimmage before the season starts like last year?

I have TG's site saved as faves at home and work. I check it everyday as well.
