Amstutz

I just love this quote... Tom must live under a rock... maybe he's rooting around for grubs. I hear they're quite tasty.

"I don't really follow the Internet message boards. To me it's like a little underground activity that I'm really not involved in."

Ouch. Didn't know I was involved in "underground activity." Thanks for corrupting me.

(By the way, I just looked at your blog Grant -- very nice. You & your wife are so cute!)

Why thank you!! I definitely "married up." :-)

And I'll happily corrupt anyone who's interested.

If he's serious about this, and who knows if he is, it's a sad statement. It wasn't too long ago that Brandon made a wisecrack or two about Internet message boards and, to a certain degree, attempted to discredit them.

But coaches should be looking at the Web - message boards, Web sites, e-mail, etc. - as an incredible outreach opportunity, a way to increase and expand recruiting and fund-raising reach. To just turn your nose up at something that powerful is foolish and short-sighted.

OK, now back to the Amstutz bashing. :)

Not to mention upseting some of the more serious fans (like us) by discrediting our outlet for creating some enthusiasm about our team.

Warthog: Excellent point, there. Football coaches are, typically, control freaks, so I can see how something like a fan-powered message board makes them skittish. Looking at the big picture, though, you'd think they have to like the positives.

Why does it always have to do with "freaks"????

Good points made about the boards. This is where THEE fans congregate.

I can see why they want to keep the players away but the positives outweigh the negatives by far.

There are people that bash me for getting on internet chat boards, but I'll tell you what, I know a lot of things before they even catch wind of it. I love the fact that people interact and it's easier to find out what's going on around the country or just at the institution that a person roots for. I realize that everything may not be factual, but for the most part, the things that are on the boards seem to be pretty true. Also, there are a lot of people with some great opinions, and I am one that loves to hear what people have to say.
