B. I agree with some of the other posts. The OCC losses all make the MAC look like a POS conference. We are officially on the day old bread rack.

C. I know I will probably get brow-beated for this, but the only hope I think we have is to continu to win. We need to run the table the ret of the season. We need to win OCC games next season. For BG to step up to the next level, I think we need to win a lot. This way we become attractive to another conference and can step out of the MAC into, hopefully, a BCS conference. I know that the cards are stacked against us and that is a long shot, but that is the only way I can see our growth continue unless there are some dramatic changes in the NCAA.
Just as you said let's not laugh at UT, let's not beat give up on the MAC yet. This isn't a fly-by night conference and I don't think the sucess from last year is gone. Recruiting was awesome for the "elite" MAC teams this year and things could go much better next year. Even then, is there another conference that we really belong in? We are virtually in the center of the MAC and all the member schools are of similar size and mission. I agree we need to run the table and keep up this new winning tradition, but let's not turn our backs on the MAC any time soon.

I'm not going to brow beat, but I'm not sure it's productive to talk about Bowling Green growing out of the MAC.

For one thing, I don't accept that membership in the MAC places any ceiling on our program. (In fact, I don't accept that a ceiling for our program, period.). The fact that we aren't drawing 50,000 per game isn't the MAC's fault. Membership in the Big Ten wouldn't change that, either: Look at Minnesota, Northwestern or Indiana. They aren't drawing 50,000 per game.

I think we should focus on improving our program and not get into this conference jumping talk that always annoys the !@^$ out of me when I hear it from Marshall fans, Toledo fans, or people like John Harris.

There is a ton of room for growth right here in the MAC.

Take Northern Illinois. They may sell out every game this year. That's a worthy goal for us to pursue (and, if things stay on track, we may actually get there in a couple more years. )

If Northern Illinois does, in fact, sell out every game this year, would this make it time for them to leave the MAC?

No.

They would still have plenty of room for growth. The challenge for them would be to keep selling out, growing ticket prices and striving for the point where they need more seats.

If NIU added 10,000 seats, and started filling them, would it *then* be time for the Huskies to leave the MAC?

I doubt it. Where would they go? The Big 12? At that point, NIU would be drawing about as well as East Carolina -- and we don't see the Big East beating down the Pirates' door.

We are blessed to be in a conference with a ton of tradition and some good rivalries.

Is the MAC perfect? No. Do I enjoy playing Eastern Michigan every year? No.

But the MAC offers a lot to like -- and I honestly thing there is a greater chance of the MAC growing and evolving to better suit what we want in a conference than there is of us getting an offer to join a conference that would truly represent a logical step up.

So I don't see the point of talking about it.

We had a great home opener. Things are really on track here in Bowling Green.

Let's focus on growing right here were we are.

Schad, GREAT POINTS! Never really thought of all those opportunities...The reason I even suggested it was because a team like Baylor, has the opportunity to play Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Mizzou, etc. year in and year out.

I guess I was just wallowing in a bit of conference pitty. I really thought the MAC turned a corner last year. I thought that the conference would score a few upsets this year, but so far, we are 0-17 in the upset category and the MAC has been out scored 887 to 526. When you take out the I-AA wins, we are an abysmal 831 to 283 on the I-A level!
