Just for the record, there is a HUGE difference between FIELDTURF and NEXTURF. FieldTurf is the state-of-the-art surface that everyone is using and going with when they make the change. This is also the "type" of turf that other companies are making a similar product like. NeXturf is junk. NeXturf is what Toledo has and is nowhere near as good as FieldTurf. And I am not just saying this because it's Toledo, I'm saying this because NeXturf it's essentially a glorified version of Astroturf. In short, FieldTurf looks more like grass, has a much better cushion and drainage system, and has a much better performance (cutting, footing) than NeXturf. The two don't compare.

It's kind of funny all of this has come up as I was just in Eugene, Oregon three weeks ago. I visited the University of Oregon (awesome place) while I was out in Oregon for the Corvallis Regional for the NCAA Baseball Championships at Oregon State. When I went down to UO, I went over to Autzen Stadium (Oregon's football stadium) which was recently renovated and is simply off the hook!!! It is awesome! Anyway, while I was standing at the 50-yard line admiring the facility, I started talking to a guy in their facility department who came out there to talk to me. I guess he could tell I was enjoying what I was seeing (the place is fantastic!). When we started talking about the turf (which is now Fieldturf for the record), he told me it was the third different turf that had placed down at Autzen Stadium in the last three years. He said three years ago they got rid of their old Astroturf and replaced it with NeXturf. He said the NeXturf stuff was horrible and they removed it after just one season and put down FieldTurf and will never go back with anything else. Also, Oregon State was literally putting FieldTurf in while we were there as they are undergoing a major stadium renovation.
GO BG!!!

I do like the NextTurf a lot of stadiums have now. It looks good, I just like the natural grass surface better.

58 days....

Football should be played on grass.

I think it would be interesting to have the administration poll the Football team and see what they would prefer to play on?

TJ: Interesting question. I wonder what Brandon, the other coaches and the players would say.

Ah who cares what the football team thinks??? Just play.  JK...

Maybe ask Metz and the Band folks what THEY would rather be marching on. :D

I'll stick with grass but I can see the advantages for the fieldturf...I mean Nexturf....or is it astroplay?

I'm more curious how much room under the turf you need to drain. How close is the current field to the bedrock. What kind of hiddend costs might they run into if they wanted to install it.

I'd rather see them invest the money in starting to install new VIP boxes along the top of the stadium, and generate more money.
