What crap teams exactly? Can you justify 4 of the 8 schools in the Big East not belonging there to make way for the 4 MAC teams you mentioned?

well getting rid of 2 and adding 4 would make a nice number at 10, the only good teams are UL and Pitt now... then a huge drop off to WVU and Quse... then another huge drop off to UConn, Rut, USF, and Cinny, if you made me replace 4 for 4, id take Miami for Rutgers, BG for UConn, NIU for USF, and Toledo for Cinncy, wouldnt that make a MUCH better conf??
Like Jacobs said, it isn't all about football. Why in the world would the Big East want to get rid of teams they just added and/or teams that are located on the east coast? Also, UConn crushed Toledo (although Toledo had some key injuries) in the Motor City Bowl. So how is UConn worse than MAC teams? If UConn is crap, the MAC is in trouble. Plus, UConn is a fast rising program and it is surrounded by incredible excitement and expectations. USF has had a football program for only 7 or so years. It went from nonexistence to BCS in 7 years! That isn't the type of program one boots from a conference. Also, it wasn't that long ago when USF beat BG.

Then, of course, we have the fact that UConn is a national power in men's and women's basketball and soccer and that, I think, USF is very good in softball and baseball. Cincy, of course, is a consistent top 25 team in men's hoops and is hardly "crap" in football. Rutgers has a top quality women's hoops team and has show improvement in both men's basketball and football.

In short, the reasons against your suggestion are countless. In the future, the Big East might add teams, but it isn't going to be removing teams.

yes i know its not ALL about football, but lets not forget its 2005, "Mr. Willingham you have done the greatest job in the history of all Notre Dame coaches from Sun-Fri, unfortunately your winning percentage was not far ENOUGH over .500, therefore we ask that you resign, or you will be fired" -ND Athletic Director
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

It took three passes to realize that didn't say "incredible excrement and expectations.

And whichever of you made the point that "a good run" doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things is right on. I'm crowding in on Cloud Nine with the rest of ya with the seasons we've had in the last four years, but, as we found out in 1995-2000, you can't take wins for granted. I hope we never see a stretch like that again, but to say that because we've been winning (in ONE sport) means we have the power to kick our way into other conferences is awfully premature.

And the geography of our conference makes me agree with Flipper. I'd rather see those three, along with the blips that even Kent, OU and Akron have shown at times, raise their game in football as we raise our game in basketball, and keep the MAC together. The day our softball team has to make regular travel plans for USF and UCONN just because our football team *might* be in a better situation is a day I fear. (For lack of a better word.)

As for the Willingham/ND situation, I know rumors flew like crazy around that, but I think that was more of a situation of ND's higher-ups jumping the gun thinking they were getting "The Golden Boy", and the gamble of hoping Willingham could improve on his slightly above .500 record vs. the Midas touch of Urban Meyer bit them in the ass in the form of a charter flight to Gainesville.

As I have said in this thread each of the 200 times it has been bandied about, the best future for Bowling Green lies in a stronger and more competitive MAC, and not in a new conference or a new configuration. I believe most MAC-break up scenarios that are realistic will leave us behind with the leftovers.

We need the bottom feeders to get a little better, but it is the consistant success of the top half dozen in the MAC which will be the measure of the MAC.

We need the MAC to be BCS.

if are final vote then is to stay MAC through and through, then we need to root for all MAC teams, and especially support our fav. teams on the road while playing at a MAC venue, right now i dont see that happening, but certainly would not object to it
