Talking with a Wisky alum ...

Post by 1987alum »

here at the office.

In a nutshell ...

Wisky offense - We'll be able to run the ball, no doubt. Very concerned about the QB situation.

Wisky defense - backups on DL and LB played very well last year, so they should be fine as starters. Especially excited about the linebackers. DBs are OK.

Camp Randall - I don't understand why, but we are totally unable to defend Camp Randall. It's a great atmosphere and all, the best in the country probably, but we just can't seem to win enough games there.

I gave her my 2 cents - if Wisky can control the ball early, they can win by keeping our offense of the field and wearing out our defense and exposing our lack of depth. If Wisky's offense sputters early and our offense gets off the races, it could be a long day for the Badgers. Her response - It could be a long day for the Badgers.

I don't know if it's fair to say we lack depth on defense. We lack proven depth in some spots, but the athletes are there.

I do not see us getting down early. We blew teams out in the first quarter last year. In the three games we lost we were either tied or winning after the first quarter last year. I do not know the numbers offhand but we did not have a bad first quarter in any game last season. Our defense seems to be at its best early.

There's an alumna I'd like to meet

She sounds pretty well versed in Badger football.

If I weren't married already . . . .

I do disagree with ". . . able to run the ball, no doubt . . .". I have worries in that regard since at the spring scrimmage the offense didn't seem able to break through a wet paper towel.

We'll see on that one.

Forgot to mention that part of her initial assessment was "typical MAC team, score a lot of points but have a rotten defense."

And to think how the perception of the MAC has changed in just a few short years. Wasn't very long ago when we were the little Big-10 with the three yards and a cloud of dust theory.
