AD in Vegas

Post by kslates »

My family and I are in Vegas and my dad saw AD walking through Mandalay Bay talking to Danny Ainge. Don't really know if that means much but just wanted to relay the info

Man, your dad is a better fan than I.

When I'm in Vegas Antonio Daniels is the furthest thing from my mind :)

Although I'd rather see Daniels talking to LeBron somewhere :)

From Thursday's Plain Dealer:

"Free-agent point guard Antonio Daniels attended the Las Vegas Summer League on Wednesday. Daniels said he was in town talking with different executives and coaches about joining their team. Daniels, who played with Seattle last year, said the Cavs are one of the many teams he is interested in playing for.

"I'm trying to make my decision by the end of this week or the beginning of next week," Daniels said. "I'm interested in Cleveland because I'm from Columbus. Playing close to home would be a great opportunity. Plus LeBron [James] is there and Larry Hughes is there now and Z [Zydrunas Ilgauskas] is still there. That would be a very competitive team in the East."

And this bit from the Akron Beacon Journal's Terry Pluto:

"While many fans want Antonio Daniels, don't be surprised if he signs a big contract somewhere. It's a very dim point-guard market, and he's the glittering star despite not being a full-time starter in Seattle."

I think he'll end up back in San Antonio... but I think it'll be a mistake on his part.

I hate it when guys go for the money, but it'd be great if he signed a huge contract somewhere. Then maybe he could give some of it back for a new convocation center, lol. Honestly though, no matter what the money is, I'd like to see him in Cleveland.

The following passage is from an article in a Denver paper today. It is interesting that some of the teams Antonio didn't mention include San Antonio, Cleveland, and Boston who many have speculated are interested in signing him........

Guard Antonio Daniels, a free agent after playing last season with Seattle, wonders if the SuperSonics would match a contract offer on restricted free-agent shooting guard Ronald Murray, who is being looked at by Denver. "They might not since they've got (starting shooting guard Ray Allen) back," Daniels said. "But, with them, you never know." Daniels, who watched summer games Wednesday, said he's considering signing with Seattle, the Los Angeles Lakers, Utah, Toronto, Portland or Washington

The Heat are out of the running...they signed a PG last night. Consider Cleveland to be the frontrunner and the Lakers to follow. God I hope he doesn't go to LA!

From everything I've read recently about AD finding a home, it sounds like he is very interested in following Nate McMillan to Portland. A return stint with Portland could very well be in the works.

I have seen NOTHING on that. Please share if you have links!

Terry Pluto's comments from Sunday's Akron Beacon Journal about the Cavaliers going after AD:

"• The Cavaliers do like Antonio Daniels, the free-agent point guard. But it might take a multiyear deal worth at least $5 million annually to get him. They also have Eric Snow under contract for $6 million, meaning that they would have $11 million tied up in point guards -- and not have an All-Star.

• Daniels is a tough defender, a team player. But not an outstanding shooter. Ferry is looking for a shooter to either start at the point, or come off the bench. That's why I think he might end up signing Lithuanian Sarunas Jasikevicius, who would be cheaper than Daniels and is a much better shooter."

"It's likely he will command a team's $5 million salary cap exception, with the top suitors being Miami, Washington, the L.A. Lakers, Portland, Cleveland, Toronto and Utah."

from rotoworld.com

ESPN's Chad Ford is reporting that Antonio Daniels has narrowed his choices down to the Lakers and Trailblazers.
The free agent point guard is seeking a five-year deal, but the Lakers are only offering two years. We don't see why he'd want to go to Portland and have to deal with competing with Jarrett Jack and Sebastian Telfair for playing time. The Lakers need a point guard and it's believed that Daniels could be an effective one in Phil Jackson's triangle offense
