Fundies week starts Aug 15th (14th for leadership)...which equates to the following statement:

1 MONTH 'TIL FUNDIES WEEK!

Erica and Mikey, i totally agree with you guys on the stripes and the shoes. and I agree with everyone else who is "show-band" biased. i do respect people who have an affliction with corps-style marching, I just dont particularly agree with it. but I guess that comes with coming from a high school program where we were a show band. we never competed and we went out and had a blast every time we performed. on the uniform discussion, we also were one of the few gutsy high schools that wore white pants too ....
anyhow, I had a ton O fun my first year in the FMB, and for those who say the band has moved more in a corps direction, I whole heartedly agree. dont get me wrong though, I love to see clean lines and drill, but at the same time, there's a line between corps and show band styles and I'd rather be on the show side if I had a choice.

oh yeah....sorry for the all of a sudden re-appearing act...i've kinda been busy and distracted from the AZZ world. but its my favorite time of year now, so hopefully I'll be back more often. Go Falcons!

MY son was in the UConn marching band for three years. He loved it.

Coming from a competition band in high school he was amused by the lack of marching ability of the UConn band. They were not great marchers. They, however, had a great time.

To be in the UConn band one just had to show up. There were no weekly tryouts to see if you would march that Saturday. There was little pressure.

I love the crispness of the Michigan Marching Band but I also appreciated the inclusiveness of the UCMB.

I am a big fan of DCI but also love the differences in college marching bands. My least favorite big college marching band is UMass. They have over three hundred members. They march corps style roll step but it takes them five minutes to move into a new formation. They also have guitars and singers.

I can't wait to see the FMB for the first time!

Mmmmm... White pants.

I am torn on the show vs. corps argument. My HS does show (w/ white pants, BTW), and I feel that it is very important to select music that the crowd can relate to. However, I am also a huge DCI fan, and I love that type of show as well. My favorite show last year had to be Bohemian Rhapsody. It provided music that was not only familiar to the audience, but it has enough musical complexity to satisfy most corps junkies.

Rock on, FMB

White pants are for wusses who only march on turf. You want a challenge, march on a grass field in November in the snow after it's been torn up by the first half. And you better have BROWN pants for that.

Oh, I know about marching on natural fields in November in all kinds of weather... All you need is a reliable laundromat... :)

Well, Flicc, if you march correctly your pants won't get dirty. Brown pants, bah. White shows if you are doing it right or not... guess flicc does it wrong.

actually it is impossible to keep anything clean when marching in 1-3 inches of mud. don't matter if you're doing it right, wrong, or indifferent.

However I've seen Flicc march, she does do it wrong  jk

Why the "jk?" We all know that's the truth!

Muddy or not, white pants are just plain ugly. I've never seen a uniform that made white pants look good.

And if you're wearing white pants while chair-stepping in mud and don't get a spot of dirt on your pants, then you are most definintely doing something wrong.

And lay off Emily!! She IS leadership this season, after all, so clearly she must be doing something right. :duh:

I like my uniform. I got it slightly dirty from the rubber stuff in the FieldTurf. (my knees turned black.)

i'm a fan of brown pants w/ an orange stripe myself ...HOWEVER...i definitely marched in those white pants many a friday night ON A GRASS FIELD, band show, parade, whatever in rainy/muddy conditions. And most of the time but not always, hardly ever a drop of mud. On the other hand, there have been times when the entire band came back to the bus lookin like Swamp Thing, so you're gonna have a bad night w/ the ol white pants every now and again. Thank God for the dry cleaners. :D

and jackie, there are SOME uniforms that make white pants look good, you're just not used to it. my high school uniform WAS NOT one of them however. of course, you do come from spats & crossbelt country.
