Post by Germainfitch1 »

The guy who is filling in for Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio is from BGSU. Not sure who it is

I believe Steve Mason is the alum.

If I remember correctly, he was a Sig Ep (strike 1) and was on WRQN in the mornings. If I am correct about this, then he also was the MC when President Reagan spoke in Anderson Arena in 1984.

If I'm incorrect about the above, just ignore it.

Steve Mason is indeed the guy filling in for Colin and is alongside John Ireland.

They are usually on ESPN Radio 710 out of Los Angeles.

I think you are right about the WRQN thing. Or at least they had a guy by that name that fits the time frame. Mason used to do Saturday nights on Fox Sports Radio in 2001 or 2002. It was nice to get the BG updates on national radio, especially when the winning thing was so new again. :D

Hey no need to take a swipe at a Sig Ep!

Steve was also a member of sic sic and while I was at BG (85-90) two of the WBGU-WFAN Sports Directors were Sig Eps and drove throughout the midwest to broadcast Falcon sports to all the faithful.

Steve also made national news (while a student) by getting a bootleg version of Madonna's "Like A Prayer" song before it was released and playing it on 93.5

I remember that. I want to say it was in the spring of 1989.

Mason & Diane also did a bit called the "lucky butt". Each week they chose a caller from one of the local high schools and they would send out some employee from the station to sit in every seat in their stadium before a big football game to bring the team good luck. The only reason I remember this is because they did it at my high school during my junior year and everyone made a big deal out of it. Oh those whacky morning DJs and their silly antics!
