Bowling for Pasadena

Post by CapitalFalcon »

I searched for this and did find it posted already...So I hope I don't get dinged for reposting...Check out this article on CSTV.com about BG being the BCS buster, but really focuses more on the BS-BCS...ENJOY!

Amazing.

Story starts out with a question in the subhead:
What would it take for a Bowling Green to break through the glass ceiling?

And never answers that question.

Good to see BG getting some positive national pub. The article is a flimsy piece of fluff, of course.

Yeah...Total fluff, but I like brandon's point about the main difference between BGSU/OSU MAC/BIG10 is $$$$...i just really hope that we start getting some butts in the seats this season! There are no I-AA schools on the schedule, so every game has the potential to be exciting. We start with Wisky...I think that if we stick it to the badgers, and we hit the national media early, that will help the attendance. At least i hope...

Capital:

Not to be a dark cloud, but attendance could be an issue, even if we do well against Wisky & Boise State.

Our first home game isn't until October 1. It's Homecoming, which is great, but it is also against Temple. We found out last year that simply being HC doesn't mean a low-profile team will draw in poor weather.

The second home game (Ohio) when most students are away (Fall break).

We have Western Michigan for Family Weekend on Oct. 22. We had them for FW last year, the weather was Falcon Phenomenal, we were riding a five-game winning streak and we drew 18,439. Here's hoping for similar weather and more fans.

We have Akron on Halloween weekend; have no idea what the impact will be on attendance there. We played host to EMU that weekend last year and drew 10,731.

We close with Toledo (sellout).

So, not to be a dark cloud or anything, but we've got our work cut out for us in regard to attendance.

Not a bad article, IMO.

My fave quote from Coach...

"Last year Omar went 41-and-4 [touchdowns to interceptions], so I told him this year he has to go 42-and-3," says Brandon. "Honestly, Omar would be perfectly happy to throw half as many touchdowns this year if it meant a MAC championship."

49+ days to go....7 measly weeks. I am starting to hear the cicadas in the evening. Sure tell sign the pigskin is gonna get tossed soon!

GO FALCONS!! WIN THE MAC!!

Freak:

Every week, Noah & I designate one night as a "Sports Night" where we spend the evening doing something, well, sports-related (our baseball season ended around Memorial Day).

So we spent two weeks doing golf (driving range, then pitch & putt). This week he says, "Dad, it's almost football season. Let's do some football this week."

We went over to the middle school football field and spent a good 90+ minutes running a bunch of football drills. We ended with a bunch of pass patterns, the last one being him running a nice post and me hitting him in stride. He caught it and runs into the end zone. He'd been pretty quiet, trying to avoid attention from the folks jogging on the track around the field. But he sprints across the goal line and yells "Charles Sharon for the touchdown! Falcons win! Falcons win!" and proceeds to do a little TD dance, then half-humming, half-singing Forward Falcons.

Yep, it's almost that time of year!

1987...I agree with your take on attendance for the most part. Not having a home game until October 1st is ludicrous, it's unacceptable, it's an insult,...it's just outrageous.

On the plus side, 80% of our home schedule is in October. The weather usually is still pretty decent in October and we're kicking off most games at 4pm. Oldtimers like me need a nap in the 4th qtr when we kick off at 6...

I think we should root for more global warming. I'm encouraging all you NW Ohio Falcon fans to get as many aerosol products with flouro carbons and start spraying around the Doyt. It sdoesn't matter if it's hairspray, deodorant, cleaning products or a tasty dessert topping, just get out there and spray one for Omar! Hells bells, spray one for DOYT! .

To quote Drew Carey..."Screw the grandkids, I'm cold now"

I talk to my kids about falcons all the time but they spent one miserable week with my sister-in-law and her husband and now all they talk about ohio state this and buckeyes that. How in the world can I turn them from the dark side.

Simple. Take them to a game.

Depending how old they are, take them to a game, then hang around by the locker rooms afterwards. The players always seem happy to take a moment or two of their time to sign autographs or pose for pictures (I've heard), and what a better way to make an impression than getting a photo snapped with Omar?

Or maybe meet Omar and get a photo with another prominent Falcon ...

I'm expecting a sellout. Although it was in September, I think we can outdraw what we got last year against a 1-AA squad.

It will all depend on two things:

1) how we start vs. Wisky & Boise State
2) weather
