4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

I was thinkin the same thing. How sad is it when a team as exciting as this one is, that has some remarkable opportunities, is still worrying about attendance issues in a stadium that seats about 25k right now? Hopefully that new marketing director has some ideas up his sleeve and a comprehensive plan to sell not only Omar, but the entire program to fans. Ohio may be inundated with D-1 football, but the people here are crazy about football and we ought to be able to find 25,000 of 'em to come watch some fireworks.
Sorry, the horse twitched.

yea the NIU game we managed 31,000 or something like that, there has to be some way to get all of those people back, once again it comes down to winning football games..

I'm going to resist saying I'll eat a bug if we average 20K, but I will say it's going to be awful tough...BGSUFootballFan wrote:i hope we can average 20,000... any word on season ticket sales? local papers here are going nuts b/c Purdue season tickets are highest they've ever been at this time..
Toledo will be a sellout, but that's could easily be wiped out if, as I suspect, the Ohio game is played in front of 10K or so. OK, it's late on a Friday afternoon and I'm going to leave work early, but let's work out a little math ...
OK, we have five home games. So we need 100K to average 20,000, right?
Let's say we start off strong against Wisky & Boise State and eclipse last year's opener with 25K. I personally don't see that happening, but let's say that. Now we need 75K over the last four games. Of course, we'll sellout Toledo. How many is that with the other stands being torn down? Well, we'll be generous again and say that we duplicate the crowd from 2003 - 29K. That's 54,000 in just two games, meaning we'd need 46K over the other three games. Doesn't sound so bad.
For Ohio, we pencil in 12K, which is realistic. Now we need 34K over the other two games - Akron & WMU. As noted, against Western with ideal weather, we drew 18K.
So, we'd have to exceed our best crowd of last year by a full 8% in the opener, sell out against Toledo like we did in 2003 even though we actually have fewer seats, get picture perfect weather for Family Weekend and then draw a decent crowd for Akron.
Bottom line - averaging 20,000 is possible, but certainly not easy.
Too much math. Must go home.
Now.
Without giving the "we must not overlook anybody" crowd more fodder, if we do well enough against Wisky and Boise to bring in a solid crowd vs. Temple (even though it *is* homecoming), then barring a trainwreck, we'd be in good shape for the rest of the home season (even a loss at Miami(OH) wouldn't bring the UT attendance below 22 or 23K, I'd think).

Honestly, I'm still not convinced that our ticket prices haven't already brought the UT attendance down to the 22 or 23k range.TG1996 wrote: (even a loss at Miami(OH) wouldn't bring the UT attendance below 22 or 23K, I'd think).
I think we have a lot of people who go to one game and one game only. In past seasons they'd make it the UT game, because it was the most desireable game. Now that we've made that game cost an extra $10, I'm not so sure that people won't just go to one of the other games, or no games at all.
I'm sorry, but I'm not convinced we're yet in a position to price gouge for UT. If it has MACC implications we will see a lot of UT people here though, so we'll see.

According to today's Sentinel Tribune about 50% of their season ticket holders have renewed and there have been several new season tickets purchased. Paul said they were happy with how that was going and more will be done to push season tickets. The article also said Doyt Perry had a capacity of just under 24,000. Paul also brought up the importance of getting off on the right foot as far as attendance is concerned.

24,000 seems like a low compacity... but im glad season ticket sales are going fairly well

HAHAHA, nice Metz. He also said the removal of the North endzone bleachers reduced capacity by right around 4000 seats. I didn't realize the seating there held that many fans.

I hope so, too. But that's pretty realistic. I'd like to see 15K, too. But that's not realistic. The kids being gone is huge. We've seen the impact the last two seasons - at least - and though fans will recognize Solich and the fact that Ohio is an up and comer, the casual fan will say, "Ohio? Eww, let's stay home."BGSUFootballFan wrote:i certainly hope we can pull more than 12K with Ohio, thats the game im going to try and make the 5hr journey too, and i like to see 15k, yes i know the students are gone, but Ohio is a good upcoming team and Solich is a big time coach
It is. But that's the half-step back we're taking for the big leap forward (SEBO).BGSUFootballFan wrote:24,000 seems like a low compacity...
Now, to get back to the 20K average. To average 20, we'll need to be at 83% capacity. We were at about 67% last year. So we're looking at a not all too favorable schedule - Toledo aside - and hoping for a huge increase, about 25% (from about 16,000 in 2004 to 20,000 in 2005).
